Goodyear returns to UK motorsport with sole BTCC tyre supply

From next year, Goodyear will replace its sister brand Dunlop as sole tyre supplier to the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). Goodyear says the decision comes with a view to enhancing the Goodyear brand within the motorsport and ultra-ultra-high-performance (UUHP) segments. Goodyear first returned to motorsport outside North America at the end of August with the opening round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at Silverstone.

Bugatti & 95 years of aluminium wheels

Almost every sporty and upmarket vehicle has them – wheels made of aluminium. However, very few people know that the very first car to wear these wheels was a Bugatti. Some 95 years ago, French vehicle producer Ettore Bugatti fitted aluminium wheels for the very first time on a Type 35.

Triangle launches AgileX AT

Triangle Tyre has provided more details of the Triangle AgileX AT all-terrain tyre that it is bringing to Europe. It says the AgileX AT TR292 has been developed to “address the growing market for balanced on and off-road performance for consumers wanting the flexibility of great on-road and off-road performance”.

Linglong Tire cancels NBA China Games partnership

Linglong Tire has withdrawn its support for the NBA China Games, which are taking place in Shanghai and Shenzhen this week. In a Chinese-language press release, the tyre maker stresses that the interests of the motherland, the People’s Republic of China, take precedence over everything else.

Domino’s gets a slice of the Tyre Safety Month action

Domino’s Pizza Group is teaming up with TyreSafe to make sure that the ‘Look Who’s Talking’ message promoting during this year’s Tyre Safety Month is something all its staff can easily take away. The UK’s leading pizza brand hosted two consecutive tyre safety days during its Safety Week this month, with the first at the company’s head office in Milton Keynes on 8 October and the second at its supply chain centre in Warrington a day later.

ACE: All-season tyres still a compromise, but nevertheless a year-round alternative

Consumers benefit from independent tyre tests, but the advice given is sometimes conflicting. Whereas Auto Bild declares that all-season tyres can provide a safe solution for year-round motoring, ACE still believes motorists must live with a compromise when choosing these products.

Tyre selection critical to EV performance – Kwik Fit

The number of plug-in electric cars on UK roads is increasing month-on-month, and the changes to company car benefit-in-kind tax being introduced from April 2020 are expected to see this growth accelerate even more rapidly. Kwik Fit stresses that tyre selection – allied to driving style – is critical to maximising these vehicles’ performance and longevity and minimising fleet costs. The automotive maintenance and repair company posits that premium brands offer the best solution.

Michelin to close truck tyre factory in France

The Michelin Group informed the 619 employees at its tyre production facility in La Roche-sur-Yon, France this morning that it will close the site by the end of next year. In addition, 74 people at Michelin’s Cholet plant, employees working in roles related to the supply of rubber mixed to the La Roche-sur-Yon site, are also affected by the closure.

UK motorists want a full-size spare tyre

Car review website Carbuyer.co.uk says UK motorists have given space saver spare wheels and puncture repair kits an “overwhelming thumbs down”. When it asked a sample group of more than a thousand motorists which modern car features annoy them most, two out of three responded that the lack of a full-size spare tyre was their biggest gripe.

Nokian Tyres opens USA factory

Just over two years after groundbreaking, Nokian Tyres officially opened its new North American production facility. A ceremony was held at the Dayton, Tennessee plant on 2 October to mark the start of operations. The facility is currently engaged in trial production and is expected to be ready to make tyres for commercial use in early 2020.

Recall announced for some Dunlop Trailmax Meridian tyres

An alert regarding certain Dunlop motorcycle tyres has been issued via the European Commission’s Rapid Exchange of Information System (RAPEX). The alert (A12/1441/19) pertains to an unspecified number of Dunlop Trailmax Meridian tyres that are being recalled by the manufacturer. Goodyear Dunlop Tyres UK stresses that none of the tyres in question are sold in the UK market.
