Michelin adds 315/80R22.5 options to X Multi Energy truck tyre range

Michelin has added 315/80 R22.5 X Multi Energy Z (multi position) and X Multi Energy D (drive) fitments to its regional truck tyre range. As a result the manufacturer’s range focused on fuel-saving now offers two of the most popular sizes in the UK and Irish heavy truck market. The manufacturer said the tyre targets regional or national haulage operations with a high priority on sustainability, the new sizes are available now, alongside the popular 315/70 R22.5, first launched in 2018, for the original equipment and replacement markets.

Hankook, FFF Racing to start at Nürburgring 24 Hours

Hankook will fit its Ventus Race tyre on the FFF Racing Team’s Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO at the 49th ADAC Total 24h Race at the Nürburgring on 3-6 June, 2021. The tyre manufacturer has also become the lead sponsor of the team, supported by Lamborghini Squadra Corse. The Hankook FFF Racing Team will compete in races at the 66th ADAC Westfalenfahrt (27 March), the Nimex 45th DMV 4-Hour Race (17 April) and the 62nd Eibach ADAC ACAS Cup (1 May), all of which form part of the Nürburgring Endurance Series. The team says the schedule gives the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO chance to establish itself among the front-runners at the Eifel region’s 24-hour classic.

Bridgestone to increase tyre prices in Europe on 1 March

Bridgestone will increase tyre prices in Europe on 1 March. Prices will increase by an average of 4 per cent on its truck and bus tyre products and by an average of 5 per cent on its passenger car and van tyre portfolio. The manufacturer said it has chosen to implement price hikes “due to the current market conditions.” Bridgestone added that its EMIA sales team will contact customers to provide more information about the changes.

Falken Tyres signs UK TV sponsorship deal

Falken Tyres will sponsor a series of television programmes on UKTV’s entertainment channel, Dave. The first national TV advertising campaign for the Sumitomo Rubber Industries global tyre brand was developed by the brand’s UK distributor Micheldever Tyre Services and its partner agency Spark Foundry. Falken idents will appear before and after selected programmes – collectively called “Characters on Dave” – between February and November 2021. These programmes include the popular entertainment shows QI XL, Travel Man, and Would I Lie To You?

CST Apache supports Xtreme+ team on 2021 Dakar Rally

The new CST Apache tyre has impressed the Xtreme+ team in the 2021 Dakar Rally. Five of the team’s six vehicles completed the trek across 8,000kms of dust and dunes on the world’s toughest endurance race. Four competed in the SSV class, finishing in P20, P26, P27 and P28 respectively, while the Car category entry finished in P48. The multicultural team with drivers from all over the world supported rookie driver Liam Griffin and co-driver Stephane Duple to its top placement.

Wheely-Safe launches telematics-ready TPMS system, internal sensors

Wheely-Safe has launched a new generation of open platform systems, making its intelligent tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), wheel loss and brake temperature sensing technologies available for sale by tyre distributors and dealers for the first time. The new systems can connect to vehicle telematics and CAN bus directly and are offered alongside the brand’s standalone products. Wheely-Safe says the launch is part of its biggest series of upgrades to date. The new technologies include an auto-calibrating internal TPMS sensor – which it claims is a world first – that eliminates the need for external valve sensors. The sensor is suitable for “all vehicle types” Wheely-Safe says, including cars, commercial vehicles, and plant machinery.

Second VW Group fitment for AA-rated GitiSynergyH2

The first tyre produced by Giti Tire to attain A grade wet grip and fuel economy on the EU label tyre has secured its second VW Group fitment in as many months. This time, the Skoda Karoq will roll off factory lines on the GitiSynergyH2 in size 225/55R17 97V. The mid-sized SUV joins the light commercial Volkswagen Caddy 5 in selecting the version of the new tyre, specially developed in cooperation with the VW Group. The tyre is due to receive its aftermarket launch in March 2021, and will replace the GitiSynergyE1 and GitiPremiumH1, with which Giti launched its brand in Europe in 2016.

Tyre industry veteran Rob Henderson retires

50-year tyre industry stalwart Rob Henderson retired at the end of December 2020. Henderson can look back on an illustrious career in the international tyre market, much of which was spent in management roles with tyre manufacturers and wholesalers. He ends his career following seven years as the general manager in the UK and Europe for China’s Enjoy Tyre, best known for its Rotalla and Routeway brands.

Joshua McMartin appointed purchasing manager at Bickers

Bickers has appointed Joshua McMartin as its new purchasing manager. The son of current managing director Derek McMartin, Joshua has become the third generation of the McMartin family to achieve a management position for the aftermarket parts and accessories supplier. Bickers is the sole UK distributor of Maxxis and CST motorcycle and ATV tyres.

Vredestein launches Ultrac summer tyre – 15% better performance

Vredestein has launched its new Ultrac car tyre today, with a range of sizes between 15 and 18 inches suited to many of Europes biggest selling compact-medium sized cars. The tyre, the third Vredestein has launched during the pandemic, has been developed with full life cycle sustainability a key consideration. Yet the Ultrac’s performance in wet and dry conditions is also head and shoulders above its predecessor – the manufacturer says overall performance is 15 per cent better. In addition to its green credentials, the Apollo Tyres global R&D centre in Enschede, Netherlands focused on safety and comfort. As a result, the company’s flagship European brand calls the tyre’s performance “best-in-class”. Hosted by Formula 3 driver Vicky Piria, the tyre’s launch was streamed online in a virtual presentation suite, with chief technical officer Daniele Lorenzetti supplying insight into the development of the new tyre.

Mini specialist fits Falken tyres on ex-Beatles custom model

4th generation Hunter Revolution tyre changer now available in UK

Wheel servicing equipment manufacturer Hunter has launched the fourth generation of the Revolution tyre changer. The top of the range, fully automatic changer has been upgraded to suit the needs of high-volume tyre shops, according to the brand’s UK distributor Pro-Align.

Micheldever people and pedal power proves rewarding for charity month

Micheldever Tyre Service’s wholesale team covered almost 2000km by foot and bike in raising £11,000 for men’s health charities in November. The 28-strong team is sending the funs to organisations involved in providing support and raising awareness for prostate and testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention. Michael van Gerwen leads list of Toyo darts award nominees

Tyre manufacturer Toyo has announced the nominees for the Televised Performance of the Year Award as part of its sponsorship of the highest standard of darts. The award, which will be presented at the Professional Darts Corporation’s annual awards, represents a development of Toyo’s partnership with the PDC. Former World Number One, Michael van Gerwen (MvG) features three times in the nominations, though in two cases he was on the other side of the notable performances.

GRI breaks ground on phase 2 of $100 million speciality tyre plant

GRI has laid the foundation stone for the second phase of its $100 million manufacturing facility in Badalgama, Sri Lanka. The plant, in the Mirigama Export Processing Zone will expand production of speciality tyres as global demand for its products grows. The company has been expanding rapidly since its $40 million-plus investment in the “world-class” manufacturing facility, inaugurated in 2018. Phase two will include a new mixing facility, expanding the original plant by the end of 2021.
