Protyre, along with parent company Micheldever Group, has joined a select group of employers in signing The Armed Forces Covenant, and in doing so commits to the Covenant’s five pledges. The company says it is also proactively seeking to take on a raft of ex-forces personnel and will get the ball rolling by holding its first insight day, an event designed to give service leavers a glimpse of life working for the company.
Hankook Tire reports that two awards came its way at this year’s Honda Supplier Conference in the USA. The tyre maker was one of just four “double award” suppliers to receive Supplier of the Year awards for excellence in both Quality & Delivery as well as Value. In total, Honda honoured 85 North American OEM parts suppliers.
Recent product developments at Rema Tip Top have focused on tyre repair technology, and one result is a “ground-breaking’” innovation: The M-RCF 400 (Multi Radial Cement Free) patch series. Rema Tip Top says the M-RCF 400 delivers “both ecological and economic advantages for the repair of car and truck tyres.” Notably, the patch can be fitted without the need for solvent-containing chemicals. The associated products needed for repair are also free of CFCs.

The Yokohama Avid GT has been selected as an original equipment tyre for the latest Toyota RAV4. The crossover, which was first launched in North America in 2018 prior to its release in Europe and other global markets this year. Alloy wheel manufacturer the Ronal Group has become the first European supplier to be admitted to the Hyundai Motor Group’s ‘5 Star Circle’. It received this award, bestowed only upon the vehicle manufacturer’s top suppliers, at the Kia Motors plant in Žilina, Slovakia on 16 April. The Ronal factory in Jelcz, Poland also gained a Quality Award.

Continental’s Tire division is just one company division expected to benefit from the opening of a new competence centre for 3D printing. The first radial earthmover tyre made by Guangxi Linglong Tire rolled off the production line earlier today. For the wholly-owned subsidiary of Shandong Linglong Tire, the start of production represents an important milestone in Linglong’s RMB 4 billion (£454 million) investment programme. Through this investment, Linglong aims to manufacture 20 million high-performance car tyres, 2 million all-steel truck radials and 60,000 specialty tyres per annum.
Following a month of orientation, Nokian Tyres has sent the first group of employees hired for its new factory in the USA on a six-week training experience at its facilities in Russia and Finland. The training trip’s aim is to equip members of the Dayton, Tennessee plant launch team with the skills they’ll need when beginning the production process ramp-up ahead of the start of commercial production in 2020.
Hankook tyres will be fitted to more than 1,100 city buses in Barcelona under a new supply agreement with the city’s main public transit operator, Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB). Tyres will be supplied and fitted by Grupo Soledad, Hankook Tire’s distributor in Spain.
Florent Menegaux has succeeded Jean-Dominique Senard as head of the Michelin Group. He officially took on the role of chief executive officer at the company’s 2019 Annual General Meeting, which was held last Friday.
