Yokohama celebrates brand boost as Chelsea wins Europa League

Yokohama is celebrating the success of Chelsea FC in the UEFA Europa League, for which the tyre manufacturer is shirt sponsor. The club’s emphatic 4-1 win against London rivals Arsenal in Wednesday’s match in Baku, Azerbaijan gave Chelsea its sixth European trophy and its first with Yokohama’s name on its shirt. A global television audience, including free-to-air coverage in the UK, provided Yokohama with increased brand visibility, the company states.

Toyo extends partnership with European Athletics to 2023

Toyo Tires has extended its Official Partner association with European Athletics at major European Athletics events until 2023. The tyre manufacturer became an Official Partner ahead of the 2018 European Athletics Championships in Berlin last August, continuing with the 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships. Now it will remain an Official Partner for the 2020 (Paris) and 2022 European Athletics Championships, as well as the 2021 (Torun) and 2023 European Athletics Indoor Championships.

Goodyear pilots predictive digital service solutions for electric vehicle fleets

Goodyear has started to pilot a new predictive digital service with Borrow, a short-term, fully electric car subscription company based in West Hollywood, California. Reflecting the tyre manufacturer’s increasing interest in future mobility services, Goodyear is using its predictive tyre servicing solution for connected fleets to forecast and automatically schedule needed tyre maintenance and replacement. Leveraging Goodyear’s expertise in tyres, the cloud-based platform predicts and automatically schedules tyre servicing via vehicle data and proprietary algorithms.

USA sets final duties on CV steel wheels from China

The USA has determined the rate of anti-dumping and countervailing duties it will charge on steel commercial vehicle wheels imported from China, and the levels set are high. This month, the US Department of Commerce announced final anti-dumping duties of 231.7 per cent and countervailing duties of 457.1 per cent.

Doublestar acquires Hengyu Technology

Qingdao Doublestar Tire, owner of Kumho Tire since July 2018, has once again grown through an acquisition. The Chinese tyre maker says it has completed the purchase of Shandong Hengyu Technology Co., Ltd. for RMB 899 million (£103.1 million). Doublestar disclosed in March that it had signed an agreement with Hengyu Technology’s administrator to acquire 100 per cent equity in the business.

Kordsa inaugurates new polyester yarn in Turkey

Operations have started at the recently-completed 3,500 square metre polyester line built at the Kordsa plant in Izmit, Turkey. Kordsa’s Tire Reinforcement business unit commenced work on the additional line in December 2017, and 100 million Turkish lira (£13.3 million) has been invested to provide an additional 7,000 tonnes of polyester yarn capacity. The project was carried out as part of plans announced in 2016 to invest $30 million in further capacity for Korda’s plants in Turkey and Indonesia.

GT Radial to join MotoFest Coventry as sprint circuit sponsor

GT Radial is the new main sprint circuit sponsor at this weekend’s Power Maxed MotoFest Coventry 2019. During the UK’s largest urban motorsports festival weekend, the MotoFest Coventry track, created from the city’s ring road, will be named the GT Radial sprint circuit. GT Radial launches Maxmiler AllSeason van, light truck tyre

Giti Tire has launched the GT Radial Maxmiler AllSeason, a four-season tyre for the European van and light truck markets. Carrying the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) symbol of its sidewall, the product is initially available in 13 SKUs with 15C-16C” rims, section widths from 195-235 and series sizes from 65-75. Load indices range from 104-115.

Pirelli at Paul Ricard for Blancpain GT endurance

Pirelli is bringing its rubber to Paul Ricard as it plays host to the third round of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup and the fourth round of the overall championship this weekend. The GT4 European Series and Blancpain GT Sports Club will feature too, both of which also run on Pirelli tyres. The endurance grid will feature 49 cars piloted by 147 drivers during the six-hour race, whichever comes first. There will be 10 manufacturers on the grid: Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Ferrari, Honda, Lamborghini, Lexus, Mercedes and Porsche. All will run on Pirelli’s P Zero DHD2 slick tyres for the dry and the Cinturato WH for the wet.
