Tyres & Accessories Magazine June 2025
In this issue:
A changing tyre retail landscape
The UK tyre retail market is a dynamic and competitive sector, characterized by a mix of dominant national chains, fast-growing franchise networks, and a large, resilient base of independent dealers. Our 2024 research found that European Tyre Enterprises Ltd (ETEL), led by its flagship Kwik Fit brand, held the top position with a network of over 700 branches. However, that lead is increasingly challenged by Halfords, which has bolstered its standing through strategic acquisitions like National Tyres and Autocare. This year, the market, which continues to be marked by consolidation, has witnessed further significant changes. Some manufacturer-backed equities have closed branches and consolidated their footprint. Meanwhile, other manufacturer-backed retail networks have grown via franchise-based strategies. Another approach has seen independents cooperate to maximize their strength and scale. Still others have grown by acquisition. In short, amongst the top 25 at least, the tyre retail landscape is changing once again. And that means our 2025 tyre retail report continues to offer key insights into the ongoing development of the UK tyre retail space.

UHP, UUHP & track day tyres
In the context of increased pressure on profits and contracting turnover, the performance tyre segment occupies an increasingly important position for the world’s premium tyre brands. Though Research & Development departments are now developing tyres to support sustainable mobility technologies – offering lower rolling resistance and higher raw materials efficiency – the support for high speed, sports handling and increased torque is the ultimate performance challenge for tyres. The luxury positioning of many of the vehicles mounting these tyres means that the market also offers high margin potential and an opportunity to differentiate brands on a performance level. In a similar vein, tyre manufacturers continue to use motorsport as the ultimate test for their latest tyre technology. Tyres & Accessories will examine the latest trends in tyres built for motoring performance in the June magazine.
