Nexen Tire back with Man City for 2019/20
Last season’s engagement with ‘domestic treble’ winner Manchester City F.C. gave Nexen Tire abundant exposure. The tyre maker returns again in 2019/20 as an Official Partner, its fifth season with the club and its third as Sleeve Partner. The current season got underway with a 5-0 win against West Ham last Saturday.
Football: Linglong Tire becomes VfL Wolfsburg sleeve partner
Less than three months after extending its VfL Wolfsburg partnership, Linglong Tire has taken a further step with the German football club by becoming its sleeve partner. As of this season, the tyre maker’s logo will appear on players’ left shirt sleeves during Bundesliga and DFB Cup matches.
BKT puts USA capex on hold
The Board of Directors at off-highway tyre specialist Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (BKT) have temporarily suspended their plans to invest in setting up a factory in the USA. According to the Board, the capex project has been placed in abeyance due to “difficult macroeconomics” and “volatile climate conditions.”
NFDA: Additional chargepoint funding a ‘step in the right direction’
The organisation that represents franchised car and commercial vehicle retailers in the UK says it welcomes Transport Secretary Grant Shapps’s announcement that an additional £2.5 million will go towards to fund the installation of over 1,000 new charging points for electric vehicles. Sue Robinson, director of the National franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) comments “it is positive to see that the Government has announced additional funds for chargepoints on residential streets.”

Nokian Tyres has once again signed up as main sponsor of the World Orienteering Championships, which begins in Norway today. This is the fourth consecutive year that Nokian has partnered with the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) for the event.

Alloy rim manufacturer BBS claims to have “reinterpreted the Y-spoke” pattern with its new XR design. The XR goes on sale this autumn in 18-inch sizes and a platinum silver gloss finish; BBS says 19-inch sizes and a diamond-turned finish are currently in preparation.
Kumho partners with German football club Bayer 04 Leverkusen
Kumho Tyre is the new Premium Partner for German football club Bayer 04 Leverkusen and, for the annual DFB Cup knockout competition, sleeve partner. The two-year partnership between the tyre maker and football club got underway on Saturday when the Bayer 04 players took to the field in their new kit for the first round of the DFB Cup, a match that saw them defeat Alemannia Achen by four goals to one.

Hankook Tire has extended its original equipment supply activities, this time in North America with tyres for the new 2020 Ford Explorer. America’s best-selling SUV will wear Hankook Kinergy GT all-season tyres in size 255/65R18.

USA tyre shipments expected to increase in 2019, says association
The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) anticipates that an increase in replacement market passenger car tyre business will drive an overall increase in car tyre shipments in the USA this year. It projects that tyre shipments will increase by 0.76 per cent to 332.9 million units this year.
BMW selects Dunlop tyres for factory EWC entry

New Zealand planning regulated ELT stewardship
The New Zealand government is looking to introduce a regulated product stewardship scheme for end of life tyres (ELTs) that places financial responsibility upon importers and retailers to ensure their products are recycled. Tyres are one of six priority products identified by the country’s Ministry for the Environment. The ministry is seeking consultation on proposed guidelines for regulatory product stewardship schemes and is accepting submissions until 4 October.
Endurance Technologies drops plans to make tyres
Indian automotive components manufacturer Endurance Technologies Limited has informed the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) that it’s halted plans to set up a tyre manufacturing operation. The decision not to expand into this area was made after investors voiced concerns about the project.
Toyo Tires setting up European R&D centre
In just a few months’ time, Toyo Tire Corporation will begin research and development work at a new site in Europe. The tyre maker is setting up an R&D centre in Willich, Germany to support its future factory in Serbia, and intends to start operations there in the autumn. Having a local R&D presence in the vicinity of vehicle manufacturers and related companies will, says Toyo, be beneficial in terms of the quality and freshness of the information gained.
