Silence and comfort with Yokohama’s EV tyres

Vehicle manufacturers’ accelerated development of battery and hybrid technology to significantly reduce vehicle emissions is being supported by tyre manufacturers. Tyres influence fundamental characteristics, such as the efficiency, the range, and the low running noise of electric vehicles, so tyre-makers are innovating quickly to address these key performance characteristics, while not compromising on the tyre’s core safety functions. Yokohama states that it has played a key role in developing its range of tyres to meet the requirements of this next generation of vehicles.

Michelin Approved 2-wheel dealer FWR adds MOT bay

Michelin approved motorcycle dealer FWR has completed a major depot refurbishment, including the installation of a new two-wheel MOT station. One of the longest standing motorcycle partner dealers in the Michelin Quality Centre (MQC) network is now owned by racer Bob Collins. With the company affected severely by the pandemic, Collins and his team used the time wisely, renovating its site in Kennington Road, London.

Bala Town drive forward with Davanti Tyres

Davanti Tyres has become back-of-shirt sponsor of JD Cymru Premier side Bala Town. Bala have enjoyed two decades of success to reach the pinnacle of Welsh football. It hopes the new partnership can help the club build on this summer’s foray into the UEFA European Conference League. Davanti said North Wales independent tyre retailers have “strongly supported the brand” since its 2015 launch, adding that the region has been “a cornerstone” as it expanded its network across the UK and into more than 70 countries. The sponsorship shows how Davanti is investing in raising its brand profile with Bala Town to actively support local retailers through its Make It Happen partnership programme. The brand, headquartered in the North-West of England is also the official tyre partner of Everton FC.

Hankook supplies new Ventus S1 evo Z UUHP tyre to Porsche Panamera

Hankook is supplying its new Ventus S1 evo Z ultra-ultra-high performance tyres for the new Porsche Panamera in 19 and 20-inch variants. The tyre-maker extensively tested the tyre at maximum speed on the Nürburgring Nordschleife racetrack, a popular proving ground for sporty handling and longevity. “The Porsche Panamera is a high performing four-passenger sports car with outstanding comfort,” says Sanghoon Lee, president of Hankook Tire Europe. “As such, we are very pleased to be the first to equip this model, as it shows that our products are extremely competitive even in the high-end segment. Additional tyres for future Porsche models are already in development at Hankook.” The tyre made its debut on the Mini John Cooper Works GP in late 2020.

Tanzi stepping down as Pirelli CFO

Pirelli chief financial officer Francesco Tanzi will leave his position on 31 December to pursue new professional challenges. According to Pirelli, executive vice chairman and chief executive officer Marco Tronchetti Provera will introduce a successor to the board of directors at its meeting on 11 November.

Bridgestone EMIA expanding EV charging at retail sites with EVBox Group

Bridgestone has announced a new long-term partnership with electric vehicle charging solutions supplier EVBox. The partnership aims to expand Europe’s charging infrastructure with the installation of up to 3,500 new charging ports across Bridgestone’s European retail and service network – including Bridgestone’s retail brands like Speedy and First Stop – in a five-year project. Bridgestone calls the partnership the latest part of its commitment to help shape a sustainable future of mobility, supporting the adoption of EVs. The project will begin in France and Italy and expand into the UK, Germany, Poland, Spain, and other European countries.

Pirelli, Geotab partner on connected sensor solutions

Pirelli is partnering with Geotab, a global leader in connected transportation. The new partnership sees Pirelli’s Cyber Fleet system available on the Geotab Marketplace. The new integrated offer, which aims to assist in improving fleets’ operating efficiency and sustainability, will be rolled out initially in key European markets before being extended to the United States, Canada and Brazil, Pirelli said.

Prometeon Tyre Group opens $15 million R&D Centre in Turkey

Prometeon Tyre Group has opened its largest global dedicated R&D Centre at its plant in Kocaeli, Turkey. The opening ceremony was held in the presence of Mustafa Varank, Minister of Industry and Technology of Turkey. Representing Prometeon were Roberto Righi, deputy general manager of Prometeon Tyre Group, Alexandre Bregantim, global chief technical officer of Prometeon Tyre Group, Lale Cander, chairwoman of Prometeon Turkey, and the entire management team of Prometeon Turkey. The event was held with a limited number of guests, in line with the ongoing pandemic measures.

GT Radial centre stage at Land Rover Kitesurf World Cup

GT Radial was a main sponsor at the recent Land Rover Kitesurf World Cup 2021 event in Sylt, Germany. The brand was previously involved with the event in 2019. Taking place between 17 and 22 August on the North Sea island windsurfing resort, the competition received extensive coverage in national TV, radio and print media and achieved global social media reach.

Pirelli tyres on nearly 3 in 10 electric cars at Munich’s IAA Mobility Show

Pirelli tyres are chosen for many of the most sustainable cars from the world’s leading brands. Nearly three in ten electric cars (29 per cent) at the at the 2021 International IAA Mobility Show in Munich fit Pirelli P Zero or Scorpion tyres. Pirelli is equipping these ranges with its new Elect technology for cars with zero or low emissions, some of which are among those at the IAA show. Pirelli’s Cinturato P7 tyres are also at the show on the BMW 320e hybrid and 3 Series models.

Continental launches SportContact 7 UHP tyre with improved performance, mileage

Continental has launched the SportContact 7, the latest in its ultra-high performance tyre line. The manufacturer will offer an initial run of 42 sizes for rim diameters between 19 and 23 inches with expansions due over the next year. The tyre is oriented towards handling and high mileage, with safety at its core. Compared to the previous sixth-generation model, itself a multi-test winning product for this segment in the six years since its launch, Conti says it has improved track performance by 10 per cent, wet braking distances have been reduced by 8 per cent, dry braking is 6 per cent shorter, and mileage has increased by 17 per cent (according to tests on the size 245/30 R20). Handling and grip in the wet and dry are also significantly improved, Conti says. The tyre’s C-grade rolling resistance label score also places it among the top-rated premium brand U-UHP tyres in this metric.

Nokian growth strategy targets 2 billion euros net sales, increased sustainability

Nokian Tyres’ board of directors has approved its revised mid-term strategy and updated financial and non-financial targets. The Finnish tyre manufacturer is targeting growth faster than the market to reach net sales of 2 billion euros, plus an increasing market share in its key markets. “Our large investment phase is completed, and we are well positioned for organic growth and strong performance,” said , Jukka Moisio, Nokian president and CEO.

Hankook publishes 12th annual ESG Report launches new ESG committee

Hankook has published its 2020/21 ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) Report. The document details the company’s sustainable management activities, responsible governance, integrated environmental management, climate change response, community involvement and development, transparency and business ethics, employee value creation, employee safety and health management, and win-win partnership in the supply chain. It also presents Hankook’s 2030 goals and the strategies of the recently launched ESG committee within the board of directors. The committee will be responsible for consulting, deliberating, and recommending regarding environmental, social and governance businesses.

TechMan Euro Car Parts catalogue integration wins plaudits

TechMan has integrated the Euro Car Parts catalogue bringing time-saving benefits to its Garage Management System. TechMan users can now look up parts directly from within a job to view costs, RRP and stock availability at their local branch. Once added to a job card an electronic order is sent in real time, removing the need to order over the phone and minimising the risk of incorrectly ordered parts.

TyreWatch ‘cuts costs and carbon’ for safety conscious fleet managers

TyreWatch has recently expanded its tyre management platform with AutoAlign, continuously monitoring for wheel misalignment, an issue it estimates affects a third of UK commercial vehicles, and VanSmart, a specific system for light commercial vehicles. With the new systems, TyreWatch has expanded its service offering further around the transport industry as it strives to balance commercial considerations with safety, compliance and ecological green initiatives. It says they enable fleet managers across all commercial sectors to reduce running costs and increase safety while limiting the environmental impact of their operation.
