Pirelli only Global Compact LEAD in Automobiles & Parts sector

Date: 20th September 2021 Author: Andrew Bogie Comments: 0

Pirelli has become one of 37 companies confirmed as Global Compact LEAD of the United Nations. The tyre manufacturer is the only company in the Automobiles & Parts sector at the global level. The Global Compact LEAD gathers the groups with the greatest commitment in the world to the implementation of the Ten Principles of the Global Compact of the United Nations.

Marco Tronchetti Provera, CEO and executive vice chairman of Pirelli, stated: “For Pirelli industry means innovation and that means accelerating change for the benefit of all and to safeguard the environment. The confirmation of Pirelli’s inclusion in the Global Compact LEAD of the United Nations is a reason to be proud and is recognition of our constant efforts to achieve challenging goals through actions that bring concrete results.”

Sanda Ojiambo, CEO and executive director of the UN Global Compact, said: “LEAD companies represent the highest level of engagement with the UN Global Compact. More than ever before, the world needs businesses of all sizes — like the ones announced as LEAD today — that continuously work to improve their sustainability performance and take action to build a better world.”

To qualify as “LEAD” in the company sustainability initiative, a company must take part in at least two Global Compact “Action Platforms”. These unite companies, local networks, academies, civil society and governments to resolve complex issues of sustainability and deliver innovation in favour of global goals. In addition, participants must communicate their own progress through an annual sustainability report that details the results achieved in terms of implementing the Ten Principles.

Pirelli joined the Global Compact of the United Nations in 2004.
