Diagnostic specialist Launch UK has introduced the real-time, vehicle monitoring system, Golo (“Go Online Live Online”), to its wide product range. The launch is accompanied by a collection of promotional and technical support such as informative posters and videos highlighting the tool’s benefits.
A new industry report from global growth strategy consulting company Ipsos Business Consulting presents its vision for how so-called “Connected Cars” will “revolutionise the automotive experience”. The report is optimistic in its vision of the future, suggesting that car ownership worries, such as high costs and significant commuting times, could be exchanged for safer, less stressful travel. According to Ipsos, the automotive industry is in the early stages of radical transformation that will see the connected car “become the most advanced computing device that we own.”
Automotive parts distributor, Fast Parts Wales, was in the top one per cent of donors for May across the JustGiving platform after exceeding its original target of £11,000 towards Ty Hafan’s ‘Pay for a Day’ initiative. The company raised more than £20,000 from the Fast Parts Ty Hafan Rainbow Rally hosted on the bank holiday weekend from Sunday 1 May to Monday 2 May.
In May 2016, European passenger car registrations showed double digit growth marking 33 consecutive months of growth. Year-to-date, the market grew by 9.9 per cent, totalling 6.4 million units. “It is extremely positive to see that European new passenger car registrations rose 16.0 per cent in May, reaching 1,288,220 units,” said Sue Robinson, director of the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA), which represents franchised car and commercial vehicle retailers across the UK, commenting on figures published by ACEA (European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association).

Dunlop continued its success in the LMP2 category at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with the top seven finishers in the class using its tyres. The adaptability of Dunlop’s tyres was key to this success, as these top seven finishers included chassis from six manufacturers. Signatech Alpine took the victory, having completed 357 laps. The Dunlop tyre range is all-new for 2016 and the LMP2 tyres demonstrated the progress the brand had hoped to achieve; all teams used the same sets for four stints, while several managed to complete five – a feat Dunlop describes as a first in the modern era of sportscar racing.
Nico Rosberg piloted his Mercedes to a convincing win at the first grand prix in Azerbaijan. The championship leader started from pole and stopped just once, passing from supersoft to soft tyres, without ever losing the lead. While some cars were forced to stop twice due to the higher than expected temperatures, Pirelli said that tyre degradation was lower than expected. The top six finishers all started on the P Zero Red supersoft, stopping once to change to the P Zero Yellow soft tyre between laps 8 and 21. These soft tyre stints therefore lasted up to 43 laps, the number achieved by Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen.
National Tyres and Autocare will expand its network by 10 branches over the next year. Launching at the start of July, and projected to finish in early 2017, this expansion phase will include new branches in London, Yorkshire, Northamptonshire, South Wales and the South West. These branches will join the existing network of 241 branch locations operating throughout the UK. National added that 14 further sites are currently “in the pipeline”. The network is the UK’s third largest; the latest expansion will demonstrate its sharpest growth in locations for five years.
