The average UK driver is currently being outsmarted by their own car, according to new research. The survey of 1,000 British car owners, carried out by BookMyGarage.com, found that 73 per cent don’t understand how to use all of the high tech gadgets and safety features in their vehicle. This is despite over half (54 per cent) of British adults admitting they were sold on the car they bought because of the features it offered.
New data from BCA, Europe’s largest used car marketplace, highlights the increasing financial pressure on the youngest motorists on UK roads. Price has always been critical to the youngest used car buyers. But research commissioned for the BCA Used Car Market Report shows that this has increased considerably in the last year. In 2015, 65 per cent of 17-24 year old used car buyers said that price had the strongest influence on their vehicle search – this was the highest percentage in five years and a 14 percentage point rise on the previous year.

Goodyear Dunlop has signed up to international transport development charity Transaid’s corporate membership scheme. As a result, the manufacturer will support a number of Transaid’s projects including professional driver training programmes and maternal health projects. Its annual membership contribution will provide the charity with essential unrestricted funds, which can be put towards the testing and implementation of new programmes and transport systems in Africa, aimed at improving road safety and access to healthcare and livelihoods.
Pirelli’s new website has gone live, giving the manufacturer a global platform for its marketing operations. The company said the website would feature its “many souls”: including products, competitions, business, sustainability, art and culture, and the Pirelli Calendar. It takes a narrative approach, using images, videos, and texts to recount stories, in Pirelli’s words, “accompanying the visitor/reader along a course of Pirelli discovery.” The new pirelli.com is designed to be a digital “magazine”, which will also feed into Pirelli’s social media channels. The project is capped by seven updated cover stories as the visitor navigates to the site.

Bentley’s new SUV, the Bentayga, is capable of 301kph, making it the fastest SUV in the world, and the brand has chosen Pirelli’s P Zero as the original equipment tyre tasked with transmitting its power to the road. The car’s launch is accompanied by a video showing the Bentayga reaching its top speed on 22” Pirelli P Zero tyres (285/40ZR22 110Y XL. Pirelli is also supplying other 20” and 21” sizes for the Bentayga. Each tyre homologated for the luxury SUV features the B marking, indicating to dealers and end-users that the tyre was made especially for Bentley. Remus has launched a range of system options for BMW’s latest M3 and M4. The new sports exhaust systems feature fully shot-blasted surface finish, a more aggressive sound, and lightweight construction. Pirelli will supply its P Zero Yellow soft and White medium compound tyres as Formula One visits the “crucial market” of the USA on 23-25 October. Austin’s Circuit of the Americas is the tenth venue to have hosted a Formula One grand prix in the United States. The track is well known for its spectacular elevation changes of up to 40 metres, with an uphill run to the distinctive turn one, which is a hairpin bend and the signature corner. Paul Hembery, Pirelli motorsport director said: “The United States always offers us a very warm welcome and a fantastic race weekend. Like all the other stakeholders in Formula One, America is a crucial market for us so it’s very important for us to have a race there.”
