For the first time, Yokohama Rubber is providing original equipment tyres to BMW. This initial supply deal covers the latest generation BMW X3, which debuted in November 2017 in North America and will be released gradually in markets around the world. Two sizes of Yokohama Advan Sport V105 will be fitted to the X3, 225/60R18 104W and 245/50R19 105W. The latter size features Yokohama Rubber’s run-flat technology.
Yokohama will supply its global flagship Advan Sport V105 tyres to BMW’s new X3 model. The new BMW X3, which debuted in November 2017 in North America, will be released gradually in markets around the world, and will come equipped with tyres in one of two sizes —225/60R18 104W or 245/50R19 105W, the latter of which features Yokohama’s run-flat technology. This marks the first time that Yokohama has supplied tyres as original equipment for a BMW model.
A new logo has been created to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Yokohama ‘Advan’ tyre brand. It will be used throughout 2018 as a means for Yokohama Rubber to express its “gratitude to the many people in Japan and abroad who have helped make Advan a hit brand that has been loved for over 40 years.”
Yokohama Rubber is about to release its most quiet tyre to date. It won’t be coming to the UK or Europe any time soon, however – the Yokohama Advan dB V552 is intended for sale in Asian markets, arriving in an initial range of 24 sizes next month. The launch portfolio begins at size 155/65R14 75H and goes up to 265/35R18 97W XL.
Original equipment deliveries of the Yokohama Advan Sport V105 tyre have begun for the Subaru WRX STI, which was released on June 20 after a major redesign. Yokohama Rubber reports that the WRX STI will come equipped with 245/35R19 89W size tyres in Japan and overseas.
Yokohama will return to Automechanika Birmingham (6-8 June, Birmingham NEC) for the show’s second year in the UK with three products new to the country. The new patterns, launched in Yokohama’s centenary year, provide new options for the high performance road, SUV, and track day tyre markets. “We’re delighted to be back at Automechanika this year and we have some very exciting new products to present to the UK market,” comments David Seward, managing director of Yokohama HPT.
Yokohama motorsport is anticipating “one of the most exciting seasons in recent times” in the manufacturer’s centenary year from its stand at Autosport International. In addition to launching the Advan A052 road-legal track tyre, it will support high-profile FIA circuit racing through to grass roots rallying and rallycross.
Yokohama will launch three new high performance tyres for motorsport, road and off-road applications at Autosport International next week. The NEC, Birmingham show is also an important one for the company not only as Europe’s largest indoor pre-season motorsport event, but as the start of its centenary year celebrations. The road-legal race tyre, Advan A052 will make its UK debut; Yokohama’s new tyre for sports, tuned and performance car drivers, Advan Fleva V701 will also be on display; and finally the new Geolandar A/T G015 for SUV and high performance off-road vehicles will also be revealed.
With its tyres used by competitors in more than 26 motorsport championships in the UK alone, Yokohama continued its support in 2016 for young drivers across the three main motorsport disciplines; circuit racing, rallying and rallycross.
Yokohama has extended its agreement to supply its global flagship Advan racing tyres as the sole control tyre for the All-Japan Formula 3 Championship Series through until the end of 2019. The extension means Yokohama Rubber will be the sole tyre supplier to the championship series for nine straight years, starting from 2011.
Yokohama tyres have been selected as the original equipment fitment for what Lotus says is the “fastest road-going Elise ever,” the Elise Cup 250. It will wear the Advan A048 LTS, a Lotus-approved and developed version of Yokohama’s road-legal track day tyre, in size 195/50 R16 at the front and 225/45 R17 at the rear.
Yokohama’s Advan Sport V105 has been chosen by Mazda as original equipment for the latest version of its MX5 two-seater sports car. The tyre is the most recent addition to Yokohama’s flagship Advan ultra high performance range, developed for sports saloons, sports cars and supercars.
