India’s Tata Motors has become the latest car maker to select Maxion Wheels’ VersaStyle steel wheel as an original equipment rim. Maxion Wheels will deliver 150,000 VersaStyle wheels a year for fitment on the Tata Tiago, a city car sold in the Indian market. Supply to Tata comes on top of the approximately three million VersaStyle wheels that Maxion Wheels produces annually for other customers.
On 22 February, Titan International Inc. closed the previously-announced transaction with an affiliate of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), one of the three shareholders of Voltyre-Prom. Under the terms of a definitive agreement entered into on 11 February, Titan paid RDIF US$25 million in cash and agreed, subject to the completion of regulatory approval, to issue RDIF 4,032,259 shares of restricted Titan common stock in a private placement. The agreement stipulates that RDIF must hold these shares for a period of three years from the date of the agreement.
It’d be hard to miss the new Agrimax Force size that BKT is premiering at SIMA – at 2.3 metres tall, the IF 750/75 R 46 tyre is the largest agricultural radial the company has ever produced.
The Ceat agricultural tyre range will expand this year to cover high power tractor tyres, harvester tyres and steel belted flotation tyres. News of these new product lines was shared at the SIMA show in Paris yesterday, where Ceat Specialty Tyres also presented its recently-launched Farmax R85 series, R65 series and R70 series agricultural radial range, Floatmax radial flotation tyres and Farmax RC row crop radials.
Cooper is the latest tyre brand to add an all-season product to its UK and European market range. Called the Discoverer All Season, the new arrival is marketed by Cooper Tire Europe as a tyre “designed to deliver reliable traction in unpredictable weather all year round.” The ‘designed in Europe, for Europe’ range wears the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) mark on the sidewall and will be offered in a wide range of sizes.
After participating in an eight-month trial, family-owned haulier Ronnie S Evans has signed its entire trailer fleet up to Michelin’s Effitrailer programme. Results suggest that the haulier saved £45,000 during the trial period.
When evaluating the latest crop of tyres for the coming summer season, Germany’s Autozeitung opted to look at ten brands of size 235/45 R18 rubber. We weren’t especially surprised to see the Continental PremiumContact 6, last year’s runner-up, in first place and the Michelin Primacy 4 in second, but it was nice to see the Maxxis Premitra HP5 acquaint itself with the victors’ podium.
For a number of years, Danish firm STARCO offered the KargoTrail and MasterTrail under its own name. The third generation of these trailer tyre lines is now available, and both have been rebranded as Kenda products. STARCO says the Kenda KR101 MasterTrail 3G and Kenda KR209 KargoTrail 3G are “improvements of the well-performing and proven STARCO range,” with changes in tyre compound and tread depth leading to “longer mileage, better wet grip and improved rolling resistance.”
As of 1 April, Teppei Shigeno will become president of Toyo Tyre (UK) Ltd. He will take over from Nobuo Yoshida, who has been president of Toyo Tire Corporation’s UK subsidiary since 1 April 2018. Shigeno currently holds a position at Toyo Tyre Sales and Marketing Malaysia.
As part of previously-announced structural changes, Continental has merged several of its replacement truck tyre functions in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. The Conti360° Fleet Services business, which includes ContiPressureCheck and ContiConnect, has been brought together with the ContiLifeCycle business, comprising retreading and casing management services, to form the Fleet Solutions department. Ralf Benack is heading up this department as Director Fleet Solutions.
Shortlisting has taken place for the Auto Bild 2019 summer tyre test, with a starting field of 53 candidates reduced to 20 finalists in the initial round. The size 225/45 R17 91/94 W/Y tyres selected for further testing mainly come from the premium and mid-range segments, while the budget segment was well-represented in the group of 33 tyres eliminated from proceedings. Disappointingly, the group also included two tyre brands belonging to leading manufacturers – both delivered ‘bottom ten’ results.
Studded tyres are just a niche market in the UK, but for anyone requiring automotive footwear that’s raring to go when snow and ice builds up, Pirelli has launched a tyre that may do the trick. Called the Ice Zero 2, the studded tyre is aimed at the high value segment.
South Korean tyre makers are well-represented at the iF Design Award 2019. In addition to the trio of awards that Hankook Tire will walk away with at next month’s ceremony, Nexen Tire shares that it’s Nexen N’Fera AU7 is a winner in the ‘Product’ category of this year’s awards.
Hankook Tire has been named a winner in two categories of the iF Design Award 2019. We won’t know all the details until the awards ceremony is held on 15 March, however the tyre maker says it is receiving three awards in total in the ‘Professional Concept’ and ‘Product’ award categories for its work on the Hexonic and HLS-23 concept tyres and its Hankook Kinergy 4S² all-season car tyre.
Private labels are a core business for wholesaler Deldo Autobanden NV, and currently it offers six ranges. One of these is Superia, and Deldo shares that it recently entered into a manufacturing agreement with ZC Rubber – the 10th largest tyre maker in the world according to Tyrepress.com’s latest ranking. ZC Rubber will produce a full line of high performance, UHP, SUV and light commercial truck patterns under the Superia brand name for Deldo.
