MINI John Cooper Works racing on Hankook tyres in Nürburgring 24 Hours

The legendary Nürburgring 24 Hours is one of the highlights of the endurance season for motorsport fans all over the world. This weekend (26th to 29th May) sees the 50th staging of the classic race, which will feature a MINI John Cooper Works for the first time for ten years. The race car, based on the cult British car and run by the Bulldog Racing team, will be supported by Hankook with the high-end Ventus Race tyre, which has proven itself in numerous endurance races.

Pirelli launches vintage Cinturato CN54 for classic Mini collectors

The latest Pirelli Collezione tyre targets owners of the legendary Mini. The tyre is produced for the many versions of the classic Mini, including the cars built under licence by Innocenti; Pirelli has recreated the Cinturato CN54, originally launched in 1972, in the size 145/70 R12. The manufacturer’s vintage tyre range is designed for iconic cars built between 1950 and 1980, uniting vintage looks and modern technology. UK car production on the rise, but output still 20% down in July

According to figures released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), UK car manufacturing output fell 20.8 per cent in July, with just 85,696 units rolling off production lines during the month. Despite the continued ramp-up of production and reopening of almost all factories following the easing of lockdown measures, social distancing measures and ongoing economic uncertainty still stifled output. Today’s figures follow news that BMW intends to lay off 400 of the 950 agency personnel working at its Mini factory in Oxford.

Mini Challenge commits to Dunlop for further 3 years

Dunlop has extended its official tyre partnership with the Mini Challenge for at least another three years. In addition to the tyre supply component of the partnership, Dunlop will also guarantee the champion a drive in one of its British Touring Car Championship test sessions. Petrol and diesel car sales to be banned in the UK from 2040

Today the government launched its “UK plan for tackling roadside nitrogen dioxide concentrations”. And with it came the decision to ban the sale of both new petrol and new diesel cars from 2040. However, electric cars sales currently represent less than 1 per cent of new registrations. Therefore a lot has to happen between now and 2040 for this new rule to become reality. What is clear is that there is now real legislative momentum in favour of electric vehicles in the UK and that this will have an inevitable impact on OE suppliers and in turn the UK replacement tyre market.

‘69 Mini to be auctioned for Prostate Cancer UK

On Saturday, 12 November a recently restored special red 1969 Morris Mini Super Deluxe will be auctioned at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show. The one family owned classic, with 33,000 miles on the clock, will be finding a new home through Silverstone Auctions NEC Classic Motor Show Sale with all proceeds going directly to Prostate Cancer UK.

Mini Clubman to wear Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2 tyres

Dunlop returns as Mini Challenge tyre supplier

The organiser of the Mini Challenge championship, Total Track has announced a new multi-year deal to make Dunlop its sole tyre partner from 2016. The single make championship has run since 2002 with a remit for competitive, fair and cost-effective racing.

BMW showcases street light/vehicle charging system

The Mini Plant at Oxford is showcasing a high-efficiency street lighting system that doubles as a charging station for electric vehicles (EVs) during the city’s second Low Carbon Oxford Week. Known as Light & Charge and demonstrated for the first time in the UK, this innovative system is the outcome of a pilot project developed by the BMW Group and is a state-of-the-art LED street light that combines energy-efficient lighting with affordable EV charging.

Jaguar E-Type voted the UK’s favourite classic car

The British-made Jaguar E-Type sports car secured 14 per cent of the votes in a nationwide independent survey conducted by The Car Buying Service. Following close behind with 9 per cent of the vote was the Mini Cooper 1275, while the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow came in third with 7 per cent. Also amongst the ‘top 10’ favourite classic cars were the VW Beetle oval window, 67 Ford Mustang and Porsche 356 – the full rundown can be found below.
