Turkish tyre maker Petlas shares that its Explero PT411 A/S has gained 3PMSF certification, and is thus approved for year-round use in markets where specific winter tyre rules apply. All tyres in the all-season SUV range will henceforth carry the ‘snowflake’ symbol on their sidewalls.
With the introduction of the Pirelli H:01 Proway line, Prometeon Tyre Group says it is offering tyres that provide “maximum efficiency in long-distance transportation” thanks to reduced rolling resistance and improved durability. Two tyres are available in this latest evolution of the :01 Series – the steer axle Pirelli FH:01 Proway and the drive axle TH:01 Proway.
For Cima Impianti, last year ended with as many challenges as it began. “The market is in turmoil,” comments the Italian supplier of equipment for the retreading industry. Anti-dumping duties against imports of truck and bus tyres from China have been discussed and – at least on a preliminary basis – levied for a six-month period; a new regulation covering the 3PMSF symbol and its use on new and retreaded tyres has also come into force.
The viability of a sustained winter tyre market in the UK has long been categorised as doubtful, with sales rarely climbing to 2 per cent. Meanwhile recent improvements in tyre technology and the introduction of products looking to change their perception, led by the Michelin CrossClimate’s success in the fleet market, have seen all-season tyres become an increasingly attractive proposition.
Towards the end of 2015, tyrepress.com reported that Continental may be warming to the idea of selling all-season tyres in Europe, and earlier this year we were given further reason to believe these products were on their way. The wait, it seems, is nigh on over. Several of Continental’s European market websites now include details about a new tyre, the AllSeasonContact.
Galgo has extended its portfolio of pre-cure treads for winter use. The Mexican materials supplier reports that six additional winter tread patterns are now branded with the Snow Flake symbol. These “Winter Range” patterns are eligible for 3PMSF certification after passing the tests set out in ECE – 109R Annex 10 and thus demonstrating their increased grip and traction performance.
