UK tyre retreader Vaculug has pledged to become carbon neutral by 2030. The pledge means that greenhouse gases produced by Vaculug will be balanced by the amount removed from the atmosphere. The company says it recognises the importance of becoming a sustainable company and is committed to achieving net zero by changing the way it operates. The company notes that it is “the first tyre retreader” to make this pledge.
Vaculug has launched a new tyre designed for the waste sector. The Waste Protektor urban all position tyre features a five-rib Protekt+ dual sidewall protection system. The company says the system provides “the best defence against kerbing damage.”
Vaculug has been approved as a recognised Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) associate on 17 October. The voluntary accreditation scheme, which encompasses all aspects of compliance, safety, fuel efficiency, vehicle emissions and improved operations for commercial vehicle operators, has almost 8,500 operator locations.
Vaculug’s Christine Bartlett retires today, following 48 years’ service. Bartlett joined Vaculug in September 1970 as a lithographic printer, creating and printing all paperwork and price lists both internally and for the company’s 23 depots throughout England. She then moved into the position of stationery buyer, responsible for coordinating internal stationary requirements and liaising with depots.
In July 2018 Zenises bought Grantham-based Vacu-Lug – the last significantly sized independent retreader in the UK. Seven months later Tyres & Accessories visited Grantham and met with Zenises chief executive officer (CEO) Harjeev Kandhari in order to find out more.
Vacu-Lug Traction Tyres Ltd has pledged its support to The Midland Doctors Charity, with a donation to the organisation, which was set up to help the community of Pakistan following the devastating earthquake of 2005. Midland Doctors is led by NHS doctors, senior consultants and business leaders, who provide medical care.
UK container transport service company Port Express has selected Vacu-Lug Tyre Management as its dedicated tyre management solutions partner. The company operates a fleet of more than 90 vehicles and 150 dedicated trailers from its depots in Felixstowe, Southampton and Birmingham. Port Express will utilise Vacu-Lug’s Tyre Rescue service to reduce downtime.
Retreader and tyre management provider Vacu-Lug, which has today been acquired by Zenises, was visited by its local MP Nick Boles. The member for for Grantham and Stamford spent his time at the company seeing its latest manufacturing developments and learning more about its recently developed VMS Mobile app, designed to provide operators with fingertip access to their fleet’s tyre data whenever and wherever they need it.
As part of the transaction that saw Zenises group purchase Vacu-Lug, Zenises Group has confirmed that it has also made “several large capital commitments in equipment and technology to ensure that Vacu-Lug becomes, over time, the most advanced independent retreader in Europe”.
Zenises has bought Grantham-based Vacu-Lug. The acquisition means Vacu-Lug remains the only significantly sized independent retreader in the UK. With an annual truck tyre retread capacity of 120,000, Zenises representatives described the firm as the largest independent retreader in Europe.
The concept is beautiful in its simplicity – listen to customers and respond quickly to their needs. For many companies, this is easier said than done. Not so for Magna Tyres Group. Tarmac’s Hillhead Quarry near Buxton in Derbyshire hosted unprecedented crowds for the 2018 edition of the show (26–28 June), with official figures showing a record-breaking 19,687 unique visitors in attendance, surpassing the show’s previous highest attendance record set in 2005. The show also included more exhibitors (527) than ever before, with the showground, pavilions and demonstration areas showcasing the latest plant and equipment for the quarrying, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, recycling and construction sectors, many of the products on show for the first time in the UK.
Vacu-Lug has become the new retread manufacturing partner for Hankook in the UK. The company signalled its new status by including the manufacturer’s Alphatread retreading brand on its stand at the Commercial Vehicle Show (24-26 April, Birmingham NEC), coinciding with the beginning of production of the Alphatread bead-to-bead retread truck tyre range at the Vacu-Lug factory in Grantham.
