A new real-time telematics and vehicle tracking alert system has been launched by Viezu Technologies. Available as either a wired or wireless system, Amber Connect provides fleet managers, vehicle owners, and for the first time, vehicle drivers with data and alerts which can help modify driving behaviour, reduce running and administration costs and improve vehicle security. The system, available to fleets, vehicle owners and retail customers without contractual obligations, has been described by Viezu as “game-changing”.
Promising tyre fitters from around the UK and Ireland have assembled in Stoke-on-Trent for the launch of Michelin’s 2016 Tyre Academy course. The 10 fitters, selected from dealerships within the Michelin Certified Centre (MCC) network, were invited to the manufacturer’s UK headquarters for the first Tyre Academy module, which combined classroom and workshop-based education at Michelin’s dedicated training centre.

The brand is seeking consolidation having become a high-selling brand in the UK market; it states the brand identity will “re-affirm Landsail’s position… by showcasing [its] exceptional value for money.” The brand, produced by China’s Sentury Tire, has grown quickly, with a range spanning over 250 sizes, most recently including Landsail’s first venture into the all-season market, offering comprehensive coverage for the UK market, in which sales are thought to have reached 1.2 million. Landsail itself states that it supplies “one in every 25 tyres sold in the UK.”
This week, with more commuter-sized motorcycles and scooters being sold than ever before, TyreSafe has unveiled dedicated materials to help keep riders safe on their daily travels. On 21 June Shandong Linglong Tyre Co Ltd announced it would issue 200 million shares of common stock at 12.98 yuan per share as part of its initial public offering (IPO) on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. Effective 1 July 2016, Enno Straten has been appointed managing director of Continental’s Commercial Specialty Tires (CST) business unit. He succeeds Dr. Michael Märtens who left the company last year to concentrate on other projects outside the industry. Straten, who has worked at Continental for 17 years, will report directly to Dr. Andreas Esser, executive vice president of Continental Commercial Vehicle Tires.
Goodyear’s all-season Vector 4Seasons Generation-2 tyre has been awarded the test win in German automotive magazine Gute Fahrt. Receiving high wet and dry grip marks, the tyre was the only tested model to claim the magazine’s “Sehr Gut-“ (Very Good-) ranking. As of April 2016, the tyre’s fitment portfolio has been extended to SUV sizes, as the manufacturer seeks to harness demand for all-season products in the quickest growing market segment.
Netherlands-based automotive workshop specialists Winntec showcased its next generation Wheel Assist at May’s Reifen show in Essen.

Tyresure Limited, a dedicated TPMS specialist supplying TPMS solutions to distributors across Europe, is now using MAM’s Autocat v8 parts catalogue to provide distributors with TPMS product data and diagnostic information. As well as including data on Tyresure’s aftermarket sensors and service parts, the company is using the catalogue to convey helpful information on whether a diagnostic tool is required. Tyresure partners ATEQ and works closely with the tool maker to keep vehicle compatibility up-to-date and accurate.

Pirelli has confirmed its expected three-year extension to its tenure as exclusive tyre supplier to the FIA Formula One World Championship. The deal was completed over the winter, with both parties working with the teams to agree changes to the technical regulations from 2017, including significant changes to the bodywork and wider tyres.
