Former head of marketing and sales at Apollo Vredestein, Jaap van Wessem, has taken on the role of sales director for European operations at Cooper Tire & Rubber Company Europe Ltd. He begins in this position today and reports to Luis Ceneviz, Cooper’s managing director, Europe Tire Operations and managing director, Latin America Tire Operations.
With just one round to go in the 2016 FIA World Rallycross Championship, Sweden’s Mattias Ekstrom has been crowned the new champion after scoring enough points on Cooper tyres last weekend to secure the title. Driving for his own EKS rallycross team, Ekstrom finished fifth at the German RX round in Buxtehude, and is now 30 points ahead of two-time World RX champion Petter Solberg in the driver standings. Even if Ekstrom does not complete the final round of the championship in Argentina in five weeks’ time, a maximum score for Solberg would only draw the Norwegian level and Ekstrom would still win on the countback of victories.
The FIA World Motor Sport Council has selected Cooper Tire Europe as the Official Tyre Supplier and Associate Partner to the FIA World Rallycross Championship for the next three years. The new deal begins in 2017 and sees Cooper, who has been associated with World RX since its inception, continuing supply to the championship.
Derby County has made Avon Tyres its back of shirt and shorts sponsor for the upcoming 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship season. The sponsorship agreement means the Avon Tyres logo will appear on the back of the Rams’ first-team shirts and shorts for the entire campaign. Avon initially teamed up with the club in February 2016 to become the Rams’ Official Tyre Partner. The brand says it opted to increase its involvement for the new season due to the success of the partnership.
Cooper Tire Europe has launched the Cooper Discoverer A/T3 Sport, an all-terrain 4×4 tyre. Designed specifically for the European market, the A/T3 Sport is available now in a range of sizes for light trucks and sport utility vehicles.
Manufactured in Europe, the Discoverer A/T3 Sport is a 60 per cent on-road and 40 per cent off-road tyre developed for optimum performance across varied terrain and in all conditions.

During Reifen 2016, Tyres & Accessories caught up with Jeff Schumaker, managing director and vice-president of the tyre maker’s European operations, and discussed where Cooper Tire Europe is heading with its two brands in regards to products, positioning and promotion.
Cooper Tire Europe has launched a new warranty scheme that covers three of its product lines. Purchasers of a set of four Cooper Zeon CS Sport, Cooper Zeon CS8 and Cooper Zeon 4XS Sport tyres can take advantage of the Cooper Promise which, at no additional cost, offers accidental damage coverage for up to 30,000 miles or 48,000 kilometres. The Cooper Promise warranty also includes a 30-day/600 mile road test, during which customers can return one or more tyres, provided specific conditions are met.
The final round of the 2015 FIA World Rallycross Championship took place at the all-new World RX location in Rosario, Argentina, between 27 and 29 November – with reigning champion and former World Rally Championship star Petter Solberg securing a podium place to retain his crown for a second consecutive season.

The company stated the site demonstrates its continued commitment to the region, coming shortly after Cooper Tire Europe announced that it will be the official tyre sponsor of this year’s Dubai International Motor Show.

In its role as Arsenal’s official tyre partner, Cooper Tire Europe has produced a video examining the accuracy of five Arsenal players. In the video, Cooper overlays graphics onto the original video, examining the varying styles and techniques as the players tried out the precisions shooting challenge. The five players were Santi Cazorla, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mesut Ozil, Lukas Podolski and goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny.
