Earlier today, the Michelin Group informed the 858 people employed in its tyre factory in Bamberg, Germany that they will close the plant in stages between now and the start of 2021. Michelin states that this decision “comes after a consultation phase” with the plant’s works council in accordance with German legislation.

Thomas Wohlgemuth has taken over as managing director of Prinx Chengshan Europe, effective 1 September. His appointment coincides with the relocation of Prinx Chengshan’s European head office from Slovakia to Germany. He succeeds Ivan Majsky, who is no longer with the company.

Carlisle Construction Materials has changed the name of its polyurethane tyre fill business from Accella Tire Fill Systems to Carlisle TyrFil. The retitling brings the name of the business, which Carlisle acquired as part of its purchase of the Accella Performance Materials family of companies in November 2017, in line with the business’s original and best-known product range.
Earlier this month, MAM Software Group, Inc. announced it had entered into a definitive agreement under which it will be acquired by Berkshire-based ERP solutions specialist Kerridge Commercial Systems (KCS). The provider of cloud-based business and on-premise management solutions for the automotive parts, tyre and vertical distribution industries will be acquired in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately US$154.3 million.
Comparative tyre tests can cost thousands to perform and require the involvement of experts. Magazines and motoring associations therefore regularly collaborate with partners. This is the case for German company car magazine Firmenauto, which has based its latest winter tyre test upon auto motor und sport’s recent comparative evaluation. To give the test greater relevancy to its readers, Firmenauto added cost as a fifth test criterion.
The United Nations Global Compact has recognised Pirelli & C. SpA as one of 36 Global Compact LEAD companies that have demonstrated “ongoing commitment to the UN Global Compact and its Ten Principles for responsible business.” The tyre maker’s status as “being among the most highly-engaged participants of the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative” was announced at the UN Global Compact Leaders Week in New York.

The Alliance Forestar 344 ELIT has been nominated for the Agritechnica ‘Systems and Components Trophy – Engineers’ Choice’.
Triangle Tyre has shared further details of the Triangle AdvanteX TC101 tyre it presented several months ago. The tyre maker says internal tests show the AdvanteX demonstrated an 18 per cent improvement in wet braking over the Triangle tyre it replaces. Aquaplaning performance was 11 per cent better and dry braking nine per cent improved compared with the predecessor tyre.
With just over one month to go before the UK is due to leave the EU, the European automotive industry today made a united call for the UK and the EU to avoid a ‘no deal’ Brexit scenario. The lead organisations representing vehicle and parts manufacturers across the EU, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) and European Association of Automotive Suppliers (CLEPA), have joined forces with 21 national associations, including the UK’s Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), to stress the impact a ‘no deal’ Brexit would have on what they call “one of Europe’s most valuable economic assets.”
Linglong Tire returns next month as an official partner of the NBA China Games. This year’s event, the third that Linglong has supported, involves two preseason games between the 16-time NBA Champion Los Angeles Lakers and the Brooklyn Nets.
