RHA: waiting for Calais death simply not an option – video
The Road Haulage Association has restated the seriousness of the situation at Calais, France, where it says “growing numbers of migrants… are becoming increasingly frustrated that their efforts to gain access to UK-bound trucks are being thwarted.” While Calais has slipped from the headlines somewhat since its July peak, the RHA says the problems have not gone away. The association says the measures currently being taken are not enough to protect drivers. Two days ago Calais police said officers monitoring the 6000-strong camp near the Port were pelted with rocks as migrants repeatedly tried to block roads leading to the main ferry terminal.
Bridgestone hosts customers and staff at Mira demonstration day
Bridgestone has hosted customers and staff over three days at Mira, where the manufacturer presented its products through a series of driving experiences and displays. “Bridgestone World”, which also included Firestone brand products, comprised various wet handling and off-road driving experiences; a series of activities and displays, including Firestone’s music partnerships; Bridgestone’s sporting sponsorships in a specially created motocross area; and a Bridgestone Golf area.
Solid increases range of ABS sensors
Solid Auto UK has added several ABS sensors to its braking product range for Japanese and Korean vehicles. In total, seven ABS sensors have been added to cover 26 vehicle applications. These new additions are for Honda Civic (2006-12), Hyundai Santa Fe (2001-05) and Nissan Navara (2001>) vehicles.
First Line increases hose applications
The First Line Group (FLG) has introduced a set of replacement pressure hoses for the diesel particulate filter (DPF) on the Ford Mondeo IV. These hoses are prone to premature failure, the group says, offering the new line alongside its premium quality First Line Turbo Hoses.
PF Booth & Son adopt new Michelin 315/70 tyre policy after two year trial
Road transport and warehousing firm PF Booth & Son is to convert its entire truck fleet to run on Michelin 315/70 R 22.5 X MultiWay 3D tyres, after testing revealed the lower profile fitments’ “bloomin’ marvellous” mileage performance.

AirREX UK releases Porsche 964 high-performance air suspension kit
AirREX has released its latest comprehensive, fully reversible air-suspension kit for almost all variants of the Porsche 964. The new kit fits all versions of the car, in widebody, coupe and cabriolet guises, offering a near ‘plug and play’ fitment to enthusiasts. As with all AirREX digital air management systems, the Porsche 964 kit is supplied fully assembled and leak tested from the factory.
GT Radial targeting regulated winter markets with GSW226 range expansion
GT Radial’s first specific winter marked tyre, the GSW226, has been expanded by three new sizes to target coach operators, hauliers and gritter fleets who need to meet UK and trans-European winter road regulations. Both three peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) and M+S marked, the high traction steer and trailer axle tyre is now available in 315/70R22.5, 315/80R22.5 and 385/55R22.5. Load indexes range from 152/148 M to 158 L (160 J).

Private garages increasingly converted to living space – Sainsbury’s Car Insurance
A survey conducted by Sainsbury’s Car Insurance suggests that nearly 4 million Britons have converted garages into living space during past 20 years, while only 22 per cent of car owners usually park in a garage overnight. Garages are now being used as workshops (26 per cent), offices (20 per cent), bedrooms (13 per cent) or playrooms (7 per cent), while around 16 per cent are using the garage space as an extension of existing kitchens or living rooms.
Addison Lee to fit Michelin Crossclimate across majority of fleet
Addison Lee will fit Michelin’s CrossClimate tyres across the majority of its 5,000-strong fleet. The minicab, chauffeur and courier business said the tyre, which Michelin calls a “summer tyre with winter capabilities”, was a “fantastic” innovation. It is the largest so far to adopt CrossClimate tyres, which it does as part of a one-year contract extension with Michelin until 2017.
