Firestone launches Firehawk Sport, an ‘affordable high performance summer tyre’

Bridgestone’s mid-range Firestone brand has launched a new “affordable high performance summer tyre”, the Firehawk Sport. The manufacturer says the tyre builds on the US-origin brand’s “strong legacy,” emphasising improved steering response, wet grip and dry braking characteristics versus the predecessor Firehawk SZ90mu. Bridgestone is marketing the tyre as a product to help drivers “feel empowered and in control at all times;” it targets its Firestone brand primarily at younger UK and European drivers, who are brand-conscious but also demanding greater affordability. It wants to leverage the long-term brand value of Firestone, which has a century-long heritage in motorsport and innovation, to achieve this.

Bridgestone’s new van tyre tested as ‘best-in-class’ for efficiency and braking

Bridgestone has launched the new Duravis Van tyre, a premium summer tyre for light commercial vehicles (LCV). The manufacturer says the tyre has been designed to minimise the total cost of ownership to van fleet operators. The tyre is also suitable for fitment on electric vehicles. TÜV SÜD testing shows the tyre offers “best in class” mileage and braking in wet and dry conditions, Bridgestone adds. The tyre was developed at the European R&D Centre and will be available in 26 sizes from January 2023.

Bridgestone developing tyres for Hopium hydrogen car

Hopium, France’s first manufacturer of hydrogen-powered vehicles, is partnering with Bridgestone to develop tyres for its Hopium Machina saloon. Bridgestone will create the tyres using its proprietary Virtual Tyre Development technology, working to a remit of minimising rolling resistance in order to enhance the car’s 1,000-kilometre range.

Bridgestone is exclusive tyre supplier for the new Lamborghini Huracán STO and now offers two options. From launch the road-homologated super sports car has worn custom-developed Bridgestone Potenza Sport tyres in size 245/30 ZR20 at the front and 305/30 ZR20 on the rear axle. Those seeking “excellent dry grip for outstanding lap times and reliable cornering, braking and handling on and off the track” can now benefit from a second option, Bridgestone Potenza Race semi-slick tyres.

Over 80 fitments, more than 30 vehicle models, 13 car manufacturers – this is Bridgestone’s tally of new original equipment fitments for 2020. The tyre maker has summarised its OE achievements in an 80-second-long video. Bridgestone Turanza Eco gets VW Golf 8 original equipment approval

Bridgestone Turanza Eco tyres have become an original equipment for Volkswagen’s eighth generation Golf. The new model includes a number of cutting-edge technologies, such as a semi-autonomous mode and a new suspension technology improving its handling and driving dynamics. The custom-designed Turanza Eco tyres add to this technological focus. They are designed to enhance the Golf 8’s upgraded driving dynamics, with the tyre manufacturer’s Enliten Technology reducing rolling resistance, weight, and materials consumption. VW has also approved Nexen’s N’blue S and Winguard Sport 2, and Vredestein’s Sportrac 5 and Wintrac Pro tyres as OE for different iterations of the Golf 8.

Bridgestone EMIA (Europe, Middle East, India and Africa) is shuffling its sales leadership structure. Taking effect on 1 September, the changes of vice presidential roles coincide with the departure of Mirella Cielo, who will become president consumer replacement tire sales, US and Canada, Bridgestone Americas. The EMIA division stated that Cielo “has been instrumental within Bridgestone EMIA’s consumer replacement organisation throughout her three years in the business.”

With the launch of the Duravis R002, Bridgestone is offering fleets an “ultra-durable” tyre that is designed to lower operational costs per kilometre through “outstanding wear performance and optimised fuel efficiency.” The main four Bridgestone Duravis R002 sizes will be available as of September 2019, with six additional sizes arriving next year. The arrival of the Duravis R002 will simplify Bridgestone’s line-up in the versatility segment by replacing all current products.
