Research carried out for Kwik Fit suggests that Birmingham is the UK’s most expensive city for car ownership. According to the results, Brummies pay almost twice as much for the privilege as residents of Exeter do.
After a day conference focusing on investing in the tyre industry’s personnel, technology and the trends associated with the next generation, last night saw 600 members of the tyre industry gather at the ICC in Birmingham for the 90th annual NTDA dinner and Tyre Industry Awards.
The NTDA has announced the finalists for its 2019 Tyre Industry Awards. The awards, sponsored by tyre manufacturer Sailun, will be presented at the association’s 90th Annual Dinner on Thursday 3 October at the International Convention Centre (ICC) Birmingham. The dinner is sponsored by tyre wholesaler Land Tyre Service, while the awards will be hosted by popular TV comedian Mark Watson. The 2019 finalists include former award winners, finalists, and some new nominees.

A tyre fire in the early hours of 28 February has “totally destroyed” Tornado Tyres’ centre on Wharfdale Road in the Tyseley area of Birmingham. More than 100 firefighters attended the fire, as residents in the local area were told to keep all windows and doors closed. Wharfdale Road and Redfern Road were subject to closures as fire crews gained control over the blaze.

In a poll of British drivers, Birmingham has been voted the worst city to drive around in the UK, closely followed by London, with Bristol coming in third.
