NTDA announces 2019 Tyre Industry Awards finalists

The NTDA has announced the finalists for its 2019 Tyre Industry Awards. The awards, sponsored by tyre manufacturer Sailun, will be presented at the association’s 90th Annual Dinner on Thursday 3 October at the International Convention Centre (ICC) Birmingham. The dinner is sponsored by tyre wholesaler Land Tyre Service, while the awards will be hosted by popular TV comedian Mark Watson. The 2019 finalists include former award winners, finalists, and some new nominees.

Fire ‘totally destroys’ Tornado Tyres site in Birmingham

A tyre fire in the early hours of 28 February has “totally destroyed” Tornado Tyres’ centre on Wharfdale Road in the Tyseley area of Birmingham. More than 100 firefighters attended the fire, as residents in the local area were told to keep all windows and doors closed. Wharfdale Road and Redfern Road were subject to closures as fire crews gained control over the blaze.

And this means that “initial discussions” with “a number of interested parties” are already underway. According to the company’s executive chairman Ian Edmondson, the goal is to find a suitable partner to help the company continue to move forward at its current rate of positive growth: “Our shareholders are now seeking to find a new investor who is in a position to help the business maintain the outstanding growth record that it has delivered in recent years.”

In a poll of British drivers, Birmingham has been voted the worst city to drive around in the UK, closely followed by London, with Bristol coming in third. The team at offer and discount website www.VoucherCodesPro.co.uk conducted the research as part of an ongoing study into Britons on the road. 2,240 British drivers and 18 and over, all of whom stated that they had been driving on UK roads for a minimum of two years, were quizzed about their driving habits and what they liked and disliked about driving.

Firestone has launched its sponsorship of a stage for up-and-coming musicians at selected Barclaycard Arena events. The Firestone Stage allows acts to play inside the Birmingham venue before headliners take to the stage, and was officially launched on 21 March at Ellie Goulding’s Birmingham show. The stage offers musical talent from across the UK to play in front of up to 15,800 people on the main concourse. The stage will also host Firestone’s annual Battle of the Bands competition, where musicians compete to win personalised Marshall amplifiers, music equipment and an opportunity to perform on the stage in future months.
