The latest report on the wheel balancing weights market by Persistence Research values the market at US$ 420 million in 2018. According to the report, it is anticipated to reach a value of US$ 750 million by the end of 2029, influenced by the cyclic trend of the automotive industry and new product launches. The wheel balancing weights market is expected to grow at a moderate compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6 per cent during the period.

Eagle-eyed visitors to Reifen 2016 may have noticed that the Remog stand was staffed by Wegmann Automotive employees. In response to questions from Tyres & Accessories regarding the Wegmann Automotive presence, the German company confirmed it acquired its Italian competitor last autumn. Managing director Thorsten Thom states that the Italian balancing weights manufacturer, which was established in 1964, will continue to “operate independently within the market” and retain its headquarters in Rezzato. British wheel balancing weight manufacturer Trax has won a contract to supply balance weights to Motrio in France. According to Trax, the Motrio business is worth some 1 million euros over the next three years and will further strengthen the supply of Trax weights into France and the European market.

Hofmann Power Weight is now offering a new balancing solution called Balancing Compound 505. According to the company, the balancing compound works by dispersing along the tyre walls in a running tyre due to the centrifugal force. The higher the speed, the more the centrifugal force will disperse the material in the tyre and automatically push the compound opposite to the heavy spot, compensating for any vibrations.
PCL has named PC Products International Co Ltd as its new distributor in Thailand. PC Products, is primarily a manufacturer of wheel balancing weights, but is now also PCL’s official local partner in Thailand servicing the automotive and tyreshop markets.
Trax has launched a new website offering information on a wide range of wheel balancing weights and technical information. According to the company, the firm’s new site particularly focuses on the Trax “Professional” range of adhesive weights that work when others fall off.
Remog S.p.A. used Reifen 2014 as a platform to present a number of new products, including a new adhesive weight designed for original equipment alloy rims. This zinc adhesive weight series includes five to 60 gram sizes; Remog says the dimensions for these weights are 15mm x 5.8mm, except for five to 15 gram single weights, which are only 4mm high. The company adds that the connection between the different sections of the adhesive weights make them flexible and easy to mount on rims. Furthermore, Remog S.p.A. adds that the epoxide powder used achieved a 480 hours resistance in saline fog tests.

In response the demands of a more diversified market, the Remog group reports that it has implemented “major changes” designed to help the company adapt and take up the challenges before it.
The headline news is the incorporation of BF, which is already part of the group into Remog S.p.A’s operations. However the company made it clear that the continuity of the distribution of both lines of products branded Remog and BF will remain.
UK manufacturer of balance weights, Trax JH Ltd has won a £1m per year contract to supply adhesive and clip-on products to Jaguar Land Rover. Managing director John Hallé says that the business was won on design and quality competence and is delighted that the work put in over the last few years by Trax staff has finally come to fruition.

On 16 July, Ford presented Hofmann Power Weight with its Q1 Award in recognition of the quality of the balance weights supplied to Ford and the reliability of Hofmann’s delivery. The Q1 Award is the highest designation Ford gives its suppliers, and is awarded solely to suppliers who satisfy the car manufacturer’s strict requirements in terms of quality, on-time delivery and material management, whilst at the same time achieving a high technical standard.
