At last November’s EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Mitas unveiled its Terra Force-R, a dual-purpose radial with a street-oriented tread pattern. The new tyre is an upgrade of the MC30 pattern and places a focus upon durability and stable performance throughout the tyre’s entire lifespan.
Honours went Mitas’ way at the AGCO EAME (Europe, Africa and Middle East) supplier day late last month, with the company on the receiving end of a Supplier of the Year 2015 award. The agricultural machinery manufacturer awarded Mitas in the Engineering & Innovation category for its work on the AirCell tyre, which forms a key part of the Fendt VarioGrip Pro system.
Several years ago, Mitas began cooperating with agricultural machinery manufacturer AGCO to develop an inner tyre that enables equipment operators to rapidly increase or decrease inflation levels in large agricultural tyres by as much as 1 bar. The tyre maker recently launched a product that can accommodate changes between field pressures of 0.8 bar and road pressures of 1.8 bar within just half a minute – more than ten times faster than current methods of inflation.
Milan-based motorcycle exhibition EICMA gets under way tomorrow, and Mitas says it will unveil a new dual-purpose radial tyre there. Called the Terra Force-R, the tyre is said to feature a “street-oriented tread pattern” that offers “excellent traction on wet or dry roads and outstanding performance on light off-road surfaces.”
Starting next January, Mitas a.s. will begin to roll out the Mitas Premium line in the agricultural tyre aftermarket. This focus on Mitas Premium has resulted in the discontinuation of the Mitas RD range, however these tyres will remain in production. The Mitas RD line-up will be transferred to the Cultor portfolio; the range will be known as Cultor RD and will be the first agricultural radial products sold under the Cultor brand name.
Trelleborg has signed an agreement to acquire the Czech Republic’s CGS Holding a.s. for approximately 10.9 billion Swedish Krona (£830 million) on a cash and debt-free basis. The privately-owned company is active in the agricultural and specialty tyre business segments, including the strong Mitas tyre brand, as well as engineered polymer solutions. Closing of the transaction is subject to approvals from relevant competition authorities and is expected to be completed in the first half of 2016.
Following its original equipment launch in 2015, Mitas Premium will replace the Continental brand for rear radial agricultural tyres on the replacement market in January 2016. Mitas Premium tyres will be gradually phased in worldwide for purchase from local Mitas dealers. The manufacturer added that Mitas Premium tyres bear the same technical specifications as Continental agri tyres, which Mitas has manufactured under license since 2004.
Mitas will unveil new High Capacity Municipal (HCM) tyres for urban use at Hanover’s Agritechnica show, the manufacturer has announced. Presenting the 540/80R38 HCM tyre as the first size representing Mitas’ future expansion into the municipal tyre segment, the company will host guests on stand E29 in Hall 3. The initial four sizes of Mitas HCM tyres will be available on the market in 1Q 2016.
Mitas reports that the development of its PneuTrac concept has reached a new milestone with the start of field tests. According to the company, these show the advantages of the product’s larger footprint and better tractive force over standard but also IF agricultural tyres. Thanks to positive progress in testing, Mitas has outlined its goals for further development of PneuTrac. The aim is to measure and compare characteristics of Mitas PneuTrac and rubber tracks during 2016 to clearly position PneuTrac among tyre and track solutions offered on the market. Mitas’ goal is to have all data needed for a successful market launch available by the end of 2017.
Mitas will have its own physical sales presence in Australia before the end of this year following the company’s acquisition of local Mitas tyre importer and distributor, Mityre Australia Pty Ltd. The deal will come into effect in the fourth quarter of 2015.
The Mitas range of very high flexion, or VF tyres has been enlarged through the introduction of the HC 3000 in size 710/70R42. The harvester tyre was released in the market last month and offers the advantages of higher maximum load capacity and lower inflation pressure during cycling field operation than standard tyres.
Following the launch of the ERL-30 at Intermat in Paris, Mitas is promoting the 29.5 R25 ERL-30 tyre, which will be available for worldwide sales in September 2015. ERL tyres are used on loaders, dozers and graders in mining operations. The all-steel radial construction of Mitas 29.5R25 ERL-30 tyre is particularly designed for large wheel loaders such as Liebherr L 586 and Caterpillar 980. The Mitas ERL series features 12 various tyres of 28 to 90 mm tread depth.
Mitas Premium is the brand name recently Mitas adopted for the tyres it supplied to agricultural machinery manufacturers for original equipment fitment, and the Czech Republic-based tyre maker says Mitas Premium’s share of its total output is growing. Mitas Premium accounted for 80 per cent of rear radial sales (in tonnes) in the three months following the start of deliveries in January 2015, and Mitas expects this percentage to further rise during the year.
Mitas Tires North America has signed a long-term agreement with CNH Industrial’s NAFTA group for the supply of Mitas agricultural tyres and GKN wheel assemblies for the New Holland Air Cart models manufactured in the company’s Saskatoon plant in Canada. Six tyre tread designs and eight dimensions have been chosen for the Air Cart, along with a number of wheel designs and colours; complete wheel assemblies will be shipped from Mitas’ factory in Charles City (Iowa, USA). One key size – the Mitas 800/70R38 178D/181A8 CHO SFT – will comprise a significant volume of these assemblies.
