The world of tyres and that of the silver screen seldom cross paths. They notably did so in 2010 when French director Quentin Dupieux brought us Rubber, the tale of an anthropomorphised but troubled tyre named Robert. They cross paths again in 2021, this time via a film jointly written and produced by a major name in the tyre wholesaling sector.
Start making the popcorn – a new film from Falken Tyres is about to debut. Called ’20 Years, 20 Stories’, the film covers the brand’s 20th-anniversary celebration at the 24 Hours Nürburgring last year and shares the experience of the legendary race as told by 24 people before, during and after the event.
Life imitates art? In 2010, Tyrepress.com reported the Cannes Film Festival screening of Rubber, a French dark comedy horror about Robert, a tyre that acquires a taste for killing. Fast forward seven years, and we’ve come across fresh footage – but this time the tyre terror is for real.

You may remember a February report from tyrepress.com drawing your attention to a new serial killer movie named Rubber, and starring a sentient tyre as its antagonist (see ‘Mr Oizo Returns with Slasher Flick Starring Tyre’, or click the Related News link below). While tyrepress.com then described the chance of it appearing on British screens as “unlikely”, the film has garnered enough support to be shown in the Critic’s Choice programme of the world’s most (in-)famous film festival in Cannes, France.
