Yokohama to attend FORS conference for first time
Following the re-launch of its commercial vehicle tyre range earlier this year, Yokohama has announced it is attending a leading industry event for fleet operators for the first time. The Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) Annual Conference takes place at the ICC in Birmingham on Tuesday 15 October and Yokohama will be on stand #46. Yokohama will be the only tyre manufacturer in attendance.
New Toyota Camry will roll on Yokohama BluEarth-GT AE51 tyres
YokohamaYokohama Rubber Co is supplying its BluEarth-GT AE51 tyres to the new Toyota Camry as original equipment (OE). The Camry has been launched gradually in Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Australia. The BluEarth-GT AE51, an eco tyre highly recommended by Tyrepress’s consumer tyre research site WhatTyre, will be supplied in size 215/55R17 94V.
Yokohama makes senior management changes
Effective 1 October 2024, Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. has appointed Yoshikuni Nakamura to take on the role of Member of the Board and Managing Officer, Assistant to President, Head of Tire Business Planning Div., Head of Corporate Social Responsibility Div. He previously held the position of Member of the Board and Managing Officer, Assistant to President, Head of Tire Business Planning Div., in charge of Corporate Social Responsibility Div.
Yokohama TWS names Elio Bartoli as company president
Yokohama TWS has appointed Elio Bartoli as its new company president, effective 1 December. Elio Bartoli succeeds Paolo Pompei, who is stepping down to become president and CEO at Nokian Tyres. Company representatives thanked Pompei for his ”impressive tenure” with the company.
Yokohama joins “Fry to Fly” sustainable aviation fuel project
The Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. has joined the “Fry to Fly Project,” which pursues decarbonization of the airline industry by recycling domestic resources. Led by JGC Holdings Corporation, the project involves collecting waste cooking oil generated by companies and households and using it for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to power aeroplanes. As of 31 July 2024, 143 companies, municipalities, and organizations were involved in the project.
Yokohama OE on new Honda N-Box Joy
Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. is supplying its BluEarth AE-01 tyres as original equipment (OE) for the new Honda N-Box Joy, a crossover version of Honda’s N-Box mini vehicle. Set to be launched in Japan in September 2024, the N-Box Joy is being fitted with 155/65R14 75S tyres.
TIA Group celebrates 25th anniversary
Shropshire tyre wholesaler, TIA Group, celebrates the company’s 25th anniversary next month, marking a quarter of a century of worldwide tyre trade. The international conglomerate, based in Telford, started out in 1999 under the name Treadsetters. Since then, TIA has established close relationships with both its growing customer base and international suppliers.

Hankook Ventus S1 evo3 SUV gave it a run for its money, but Continental’s PremiumContact 7 recently won the What Car? With a weighted score of 86 per cent, the PremiumContact 7 was one percentage point ahead of the second-placed Hankook Ventus S1 evo3 SUV (85%). Michelin’s Primacy 4+ rounded off the podium, albeit some way back, with a weighted score of 71 per cent. The test also considered a number of tyres outside the premium stable. Interestingly, What Car? ranked Triangles EffexSport TH202 ahead of the GT Radial FE2 SUV and the Landsail LS588 SUV.
Yokohama Advan Sport EV, Advan db EV tyres help extend driving range, ensure quiet ride
While the progress of electric vehicles in growing market share in Europe continues to be beset by headwinds, they have already built a sizeable presence. Projections suggest that fully electric car sales will make up nearly 16 per cent of all new car sales in the UK in 2024. One persistent barrier for some drivers continues to be range anxiety, and tyre makers such as Yokohama are addressing these fears with their recent product launches, such as its Advan Sport EV.
Commercial debut for Yokohama’s fin tech on Advan A50
Yokohama Rubber has commercially introduced a new technology it has been working on for a number of years, aerodynamic fins that improve handling stability. It debuted this feature on the Yokohama Advan A50, a size 165/50R16 75V tyre currently only available in Japan as an original equipment fitment on the Daihatsu Copen two-door convertible kei car.
Yokohama tyres OE on BMW M2
Yokohama Advan Sport V107 tyres are now an original equipment fitment for the BMW M2, the high-performance compact sports car introduced by BMW M GmbH in April 2024. Yokohama Rubber is supplying the tyre in 275/35ZR19 (100Y) for the front wheels and 285/30ZR20 (99Y) for the rear.
OE tyres for China’s top selling cars
Some 1.6 million passenger cars were sold in China in July 2024, and for the first time the number of new energy vehicles sold surpassed sales of combustion vehicles. The top ten selling cars accounted for around 230,000 units, and local association the Car and Wheel Shop Owners Alliance provides information about the tyres these popular models wear as original equipment. Linglong is a reoccurring name, with six of the ten best-selling models available with Linglong OE tyres.

Yokohama Rubber reports record first-half financial results
On 9 August, The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. announced its financial performance for the first half of fiscal 2024, publishing results that necessitate an upward revision of full-year earnings projections. The company’s sales revenue for the period surged by 18.5% year-on-year to a record ¥525.3 billion (£2.81 billion). Business profit climbed 113.4% to ¥54.6 billion (£292.4 million), operating profit increased by 99.6% to ¥56.3 billion (£301.7 million) and profit attributable to owners of parent grew by 68.3% to ¥46.6 billion (£249.9 million).
