Mercedes-Benz has awarded Continental preferred tyre partner status in China, Australia, Malaysia, and Indonesia. This takes effect immediately and is valid until August 2025. Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz has extended its existing partnership with Continental in the Indian market until August 2024.
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company approved “a rationalization plan in Asia Pacific to improve profitability in its Australia and New Zealand operations” on 19 September 2023. The plan exits 100 retail and fleet locations and nine warehouses at the cost of 700 jobs. In other words, it changes the company’s operating model to a third-party distribution and retail sales model instead of a company-owned approach. That specifically means moves such as the recent appointment of National Tyre & Wheel Limited (National) as the exclusive distributor of the Dunlop tyre brand in Australia and New Zealand.
Bridgestone China Asia Pacific (BSCAP) won Gold in both the CSR and ESG Leadership category, and the Best Environmental Excellence Award in the suite of awards facilitated by Pinnacle Group International. Bridgestone Australia & New Zealand’s ongoing commitment to the RYDA road safety education program and sustainable practices embedded within the Bandag retread business were highlighted as a significant contributor to the award victories. Vikram Garga is the new group head of marketing for Apollo Tyres in the Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa (APMEA) region. Announcing Garga’s appointment, Apollo says the industry veteran will spearhead the regional marketing team and take responsibility for marketing and product strategy for all product categories, dealer programmes, brand positioning and monitoring performance in conjunction with sales. Based out of Apollo Tyres’ corporate headquarters in Gurugram, India, Garga will report to Satish Sharma president of Apollo Tyres’ APMEA business.
Following Ryan Patterson’s appointment as senior vice president, Business Integration at Goodyear, Nathaniel Madarang succeeds Patterson as president of Goodyear Asia Pacific. Madarang was previously managing director of Goodyear China and his new appointment took effect on 4 March 2021.
Global tyre construction, reinforcement, and composites technology supplier Kordsa has appointed İbrahim Özgür Yıldırım as chief operating officer for the Asia-Pacific region. Yıldırım will replace Zeki Kanadıkırık, who steps down after five years in the position, as of 1 September 2020.
As of 1 November, Andy Traicoff will take over as vice president consumer of Goodyear Tire & Rubber’s Asia Pacific business unit. He moves to this role from his current jobs as vice president, customer experience of the company’s Americas business unit, a position he has held since October 2018. Traicoff will report to Ryan Patterson, president of Goodyear Asia Pacific.
With investment of 65 million euros, Pirelli is taking a 49 per cent share in a “technologically advanced” consumer tyre plant in China. Through this joint venture partnership with Hixih Rubber Industry Group, Pirelli says it will gain greater production flexibility in APAC, particularly within the high value segment. The new joint venture company has been named Jining Shenzhou Tyre Co.
Offered as part of its fleet service programme in Europe since 2013, Bridgestone is now beginning the rollout of its Tirematics solution in the Asia Pacific region. The solution is initially being deployed in Singapore and Thailand.
UFC has announced a multi-year partnership with General Tire, which will serve as the “Official Tyre Partner of the UFC” in the Asia-Pacific region. The partnership will begin on Saturday 17 June with UFC Fight Night: Holm vs. Correia at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.
Mike Welch’s global aspirations for Blackcircles.com pre-date the Scottish company’s acquisition by Michelin, however the tyre maker has provided a platform for expansion, and over the coming year Blackcircles will work towards establishing a presence on the other side of the world. Speaking with The Scotsman, the founder and chief executive officer shared that consumers in Asia Pacific will soon get to know the Blackcircles way of buying tyres.
After four years at the helm of Goodyear Tire & Rubber’s Asia Pacific business unit, Daniel L. Smytka has been earmarked for another leadership role within the company. He will be succeeded as president of the Asia Pacific region business by Chris Delaney, who joins Goodyear today. Delaney will assume full responsibility for the business on 1 January 2016; Smytka will work closely with Delaney on the transition before moving to his new position, in which he will report directly to Goodyear chairman and chief executive officer Richard J. Kramer.
