Fall in UK March van sales
Commenting on the latest UK registration figures for vans, Sue Robinson, Chief Executive of the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA), said; “Registrations of light commercial vehicles declined in March as supply constraints and subsequent product shortages continue to have a detrimental impact on the market; these issues are not only affecting automotive, but also other economy sectors, such as the construction industry, whose stability is vital to the van market.”
Fall in vehicle sales in China during March due to COVID-19 – GlobalData
Following the news that China vehicle sales fell by 11.7 per cent in March after two months of increase, Bakar Sadik Agwan, Senior Automotive Consulting Analyst at GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company, offers his view: “In contrast to a positive jump of 18.7 per cent in February, vehicle sales in China fell by 11.7 per cent to 2.2 million units in March 2022, following the production and supply disruptions caused by the new wave of the COVID-19 which led to strict lockdowns across regions in the country.”
Robinson returns to racing with NGK
Seven-time UK pro mod champion Andy Robinson returns to drag racing this month in his NGK-sponsored race car ‘Anger Management 2.0’. He will be in action at Northamptonshire’s Santa Pod Raceway over the Bank Holiday weekend (April 15-17) when he takes part in the Festival of Power meeting.

The Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF) has welcomed automotive lubricants manufacturer Motul to its membership. Established in 1853, Motul is well known in the automotive industry for producing some of the highest quality lubricant products with a heritage forged primarily on the racing circuit.
Expert trainers and industry speakers revealed for inaugural UK Garage and Bodyshop Event
The UK Garage and Bodyshop Event has unveiled its line-up of expert trainers and guest speakers for its inaugural June event at Birmingham’s NEC, to support the UK garage and body shop industry through the biggest change it’s ever experienced. The first part of the roster of guest speakers offering industry insight and technical talks from 8-9 June has now been revealed. Giving the opening address at the event will be Andy Hamilton of LKQ Euro Car Parts, who will followed by more than 40 others, including Dean Lander of Thatcham, James Dillon, Steve Carter, ‘The Garage Inspector’ Andy Savva, Quentin Le Hetet of GiPA and many more.
E-bike “that’s engineered and built like a motorcycle”
Launching in early April, the SX-250 series III from Nuneaton-based e-mobility company Eskuta, combines the design features of a motorcycle with all the cost-saving benefits of an e-bike, says the manufacturer. The SX-250 provides an alternative to the more traditionally styled electric bikes currently on offer. Enhanced features include, rear view mirrors, indicators, motorcycle grade adjustable suspension, a motorcycle grade braking system, handlebar controls, LED lighting, alarm, immobiliser, keyless-go and alloy wheels with tubeless tyres.
Wheel safety: Seeing is believing for Waterline
Kitchen products supplier Waterline is in the process of rolling out Wheely-Safe technology across its commercial vehicle fleet. Eager to improve the safety and compliance of its operation, the business is fitting 29 Volvo FL delivery trucks with Wheely-Safe’s latest generation wheel loss and tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS). Waterline was introduced to the technology by its tyre supplier, Three Counties Tyre Services.

The IAAF has formed its new look council including distributors, suppliers, buying groups, service providers and garages, who come together regularly to debate industry issues and IAAF policy, ensuring the independent aftermarket can continue to thrive and develop. Appointed at its recent Annual General Meeting (AGM), the meeting provided a welcome opportunity for members to network face to face, with some members attending virtually.
