Next Century Ventures (NCV), the corporate venture capital fund established by Nexen Tire and holding company Nexen Corp in March 2021, has selected Urban Air Mobility (UAM) as the first target for taking Nexen’s mobility ambitions beyond tyres. Its initial investment in ANRA Technologies is a deal that should hearten those patiently awaiting the arrival of flying cars.

Bridgestone’s Brisa JV acquires telematics firm Arvento

Brisa, the joint venture between Bridgestone Corporation and Sabancı Holding that holds a leadership position in Turkey’s tyre market, has acquired 88.89 per cent capital shares of Turkish fleet telematics company Arvento Mobile Systems (Arvento) for a consideration of TRY 291 million (£15 million). The transfer price will be subject to some adjustments, taking into account the net debt and working capital levels of Arvento at the closing date.

20 years of Pirelli run-flat tyres

Pirelli may not have invented the run-flat tyre – these have been around in various forms since the 1930s – but it is now 20 years since the Italian manufacturer brought its first run-flats to market. The road tyres that Pirelli launched in 2001 drew upon lessons learned from rallying, the setting where the tyre maker tried and tested this technology for the first time. Driving on tyres containing a reinforced structure enabled rally cars to keep moving in the event of a puncture, saving precious minutes during intense competition.

Bridgestone supply ologic technology tyres to Seat Minimó electric concept car

Seat has chosen Bridgestone as its preferred tyre partner to equip its new Minimó electric concept car, presented at the Geneva Motor Show. Minimó sits on specially designed tyres that apply Bridgestone’s ologic technology. Anticipating the design lines of a tyre oriented towards micro-mobility and CASE (Connected Autonomous Share Electric) vehicles, the tyres were developed for the car brand at Bridgestone’s R&D Centre in Rome.
