BFGoodrich returns as Official Tyre of Dakar Rally in ‘global domination of dirt’ quest

BFGoodrich Tyres will return to the 2017 Dakar Rally as the official tyre supplier. The news marks a return of the brand as a major force in the rally, which starts in Asunción, Paraguay in January; BFGoodrich tyres will be back on a wide range of competitors’ vehicles for the first time since 2012. In support of this, the brand will roll out the BFGoodrich Dakar Service Center, through which competitors will benefit from 24/7 technical expertise. The rugged terrain and unpredictable elements racers face over two weeks and more than 5,000 miles of punishing competition across three countries is described as exactly the sort of proving ground BFGoodrich seeks. Goodyear truck tyres ready for ‘the Odyssey’

Motorsport

Following extensive testing in Spain and Morocco, the 2012 Dakar race-winning De Rooy team has chosen Goodyear ORD off-the-road truck tyres for the three Iveco trucks it has entered into ‘the Odyssey’, the 2016 Dakar race. The tyres to be used are size 375/90R22.5 Goodyear ORD tyres. This size is unique to Goodyear and replaces the 14.00R20 fitment the De Rooy team previously used. The size 375/90R22.5 tyre retains the same overall diameter and width as the 14.00R20 but the larger rim diameter provides greater brake clearance, thereby improving heat resistance.

Dakar involvement bolsters Cooper’s 4×4 tyre strength

Premium, Product News

Cooper can lay claim to being a leading brand within the 4×4 tyre market, with one of the stronger ranges of any manufacturer. Its tyres are selected for many applications, with the world’s most gruelling off-road endurance event, the Dakar Rally, perhaps the most notable for the challenge it presents to rubber. Cooper tyres are utilised by rally legends such as Xavi Foj, whose team is supported by the brand; links such as this help the manufacturer to underline its presence within this segment. Foj used the Discoverer S/T Maxx to take a podium finish in Buenos Aires this January, in what was the Spanish driver’s 25th Dakar Rally.
