While Yokohama has ended its Chelsea shirt sponsorship after “five very successful years”, the Japanese tyre manufacturer will continue its relationship with the premiership team as Official Global Tyre Partner.
Chelsea FC and shirt partner Yokohama, have created a web-video to help raise awareness of this year’s tyre safety month. Running throughout October when variable weather conditions can make driving particularly treacherous, tyre safety month is encouraging motorists to carry out regular tyre safety checks such as ensuring their tyres are inflated to the correct pressure and they have adequate tread depth.
Japanese tyre manufacturer, Yokohama, returns to the Silverstone Classic for its second year as the official tyre partner. Over 100,000 people are expected to attend the motorsport and classic car event from 26–28 July.
This year, Chelsea FC will play a pre-season match in Japan, an event sponsor Yokohama Rubber has previously requested. The tyre maker has now announced its support of the fixture, which is scheduled for 19 July – it intends to “work closely with Chelsea” while the team is in Japan to “bring Japanese fans closer to the ‘Blues’ ahead of the 2019/20 season.”
For the second year in succession, Yokohama has been awarded TyreSafe’s Tyre Manufacturer Award in recognition of its efforts, achievements and innovative approach in promoting tyre safety in the UK.
Having initially secured the award last year, Yokohama built on the success of its original campaign by utilising its partnership with Chelsea Football Club throughout 2016 to generate further high-profile awareness of tyre safety issues with Premier League football fans, and creating a powerful call to action, encouraging fans to check their tyres for a safe journey home.
