It’s 1973 and the tyre business in Europe is a very different and disconnected affair, with each national market a self-contained operation. For Jos Delcroix, this structure represented an opportunity, and in October of that year he founded Deldo, a company that has grown to become one of the largest tyre wholesalers in the region and an up-and-coming player worldwide.
To put the weirdness of 2022 into perspective, consider that tyre wholesalers must contend with the impact of both rising costs and falling costs. And this contradictory situation is but one of a host of challenges in a year that tore up the rulebook. Antwerp-based wholesaler Deldo recently shared its experiences with us.

UVeye is a provider of artificial intelligence (AI) based solutions for automatic external inspection of vehicles within the security industry. Initially developing systems to detect dangerous conditions like weapons, explosives, or other threats in some of the world’s most high-security locations, the company saw the opportunity to use its technology to solve challenges in the automotive industry to detect potentially hazardous mechanical issues. Its suite of products includes its original undercarriage application (Helios), its revolutionary 360 solution (Atlas), and its targeted tyre application (Artemis). The company explains why it believes AI technology will help shape the future standard for vehicle inspection, increasing the speed, efficiency and accuracy of tyre checks at every stage of a vehicle’s lifecycle.
The UK’s leading exhibition for the automotive aftermarket and vehicle production industry, Automechanika Birmingham, welcomed 10,200 industry personnel to its 2018 event. Tyres & Accessories joined the National Tyre Distributors Association in representing the UK tyre industry at what was a lively event for the automotive sector, with an emphasis on visitor interaction – a fact underlined by the three in-hall dedicated presentation spaces, in which speakers addressed major issues currently affecting the sector.
The establishment of Atlas as Shandong Linglong Tire’s flagship tyre brand in China has been further reinforced by the opening of the first Atlas-branded retail outlet within the country. It’s no secret that trade exhibitions such as Reifen primarily serve as venues for maintaining business relationships and for meeting new customers or suppliers, and Deldo Autobanden used the show week to its full potential. When Tyres & Accessories dropped by the Antwerp-based wholesaler’s stand it was typically brimming with activity; during a quieter moment, marketing and communication management assistant Jente Vermeiren shared that Reifen had more than met Deldo’s expectations.
The tyres securing a podium place in German magazine tyre tests are almost invariably products from the ‘top-ten’ manufacturers. This is so often the case that one publication recently described the performance of rubber from outside this small circle of tyre majors as being “surprisingly good”. The magazine was Auto Bild, and the tyre in question is the Atlas Sport Green.
