Continental wins inaugural Tyre Industry Environmental & Sustainable Solution Award

The Worshipful Company of Wheelwrights has named Continental Tyre Group Ltd the inaugural winners of the Tyre Industry Environmental & Sustainable Solution Award. The accolade was presented at the Worshipful Company of Wheelwrights White Tie Banquet. The independent judging panel looked for entries to show evidence of materially reducing the environmental impact of tyres and production over the product’s entire lifespan, whilst promoting sustainability and bringing environmental benefits to both business and wider society. Conti’s marketing director Tracey Mortimer said the award was “a huge honour,” which “highlights Continental’s commitment to environmental consideration.”

The facility, located at the Continental Engineering Services plant in Karben, Germany, offers a variety of modern 3D printing technologies, such as a Selective Laser Melting (SLM) machine, Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Stereolithography (SLA), Digital Light Printing (DLP) and Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM).

Continental targets full solutions provision for port industry alongside new tyre portfolio

Continental will introduce its new radial port tyre portfolio at this year's TOC Europe in Rotterdam. Developed to meet the demands of vehicles used for terminal operations, the newly expanded port portfolio is specifically designed for load and carry applications. The company also emphasises its service provision and aim to become a full solutions provider for port operations, referencing its slogan, ‘Every move you make’. Continental Commercial Specialty Tires (CST) will show its complete port product range at the trade fair, including V.ply tyres, radial tyres, and digital solutions on 18-20 June at booth D72 in Hall 1 at Rotterdam Ahoy.

Continental: High retread demand driving 300% production boost at USA plant

Almost 60 ContiLifeCycle partners around the world, including 30 in the USA and Canada, currently retread tyres using ContiTread treads. Demand for these pre-cure treads is growing in North America. For this reason, Continental is raising production this year at its February 2018-inaugurated tread plant in Mount Vernon, USA by 300 per cent compared to 2018 levels. A second shift was added in March to facilitate this.

The Consumer Superbrands survey has been tracking the perception of a wide-range of brands in the UK since 1995. This year’s survey featured 1,596 brands across 78 different categories, ranging from ‘Automotive Products’ to ‘Vitamins & Supplements’. Only the most highly-regarded brands from each category are awarded Superbrand status.

Official opening for Continental’s Thailand tyre plant

Continental’s new tyre making facility in Thailand is officially up and running. A ceremony was held yesterday to mark the occasion, with around 500 people present to mark inauguration of the 250-million-euro greenfield factory in Rayong. Production will now be ramped up to provide a capacity to manufacture some four million passenger car and light commercial vehicle tyres by 2022. These tyres will be sold locally and throughout the entire APAC region.
