Yokohama has marked its 30th Autosport International show with a number of new partnerships in motorsport. In rallying, the tyre manufacturer has extended its support for grass roots and developing drivers in a new partnership with Harper Adams Motorsport Team.
Yokohama’s Geolandar M/T G003 tyres for SUVs and pickup trucks will be fitted to the Korando DKR driven by Oscar Fuertes Aldanondo and Diego Vallejo for Ssangyong Motorsport/Sodicars Racing on the 2020 Dakar Rally (5-17 January). The same car and drivers came in third in the T1.3 petrol 2-wheel drive class in the January 2019 event, and will take on competition in the same class this year.
A renewed version of Yokohama Rubber’s corporate website is now online. The company says this update aims to “promote greater penetration of the Yokohama Rubber corporate image” among website users by strengthening corporate identity and visual identity to more effectively communicate its corporate vision.
Startup Europe Partnership (SEP), an initiative by the European Commission, has distinguished Fiege as an Open Innovation Challenger. Having first achieved this standard a year ago, Fiege is being distinguished for the second time in a row. The annual ranking also includes multinationals like Google, Nestlé and Bridgestone. Next to Fiege, a further three German enterprises were distinguished: Bosch, Daimler, and SAP.
Yokohama tyres have been fitted as original equipment on the Porsche Cayenne since the SUV was first introduced in 2002. This partnership has continued through to the third-generation Cayenne – Yokohama Rubber shares that two of its tyre models are being supplied as original equipment.

The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) announced its Best New Products Award winners this morning at the 2019 SEMA Show. SEMA’s annual New Product Awards competition recognizes outstanding achievements in the development of products being introduced to the automotive specialty-equipment market at the SEMA Show. Products are judged in 16 award categories, and each category has one winner and two runners-up.
In the USA, Yokohama Avid S34RV tyres have been selected as OE on the 2020 Chrysler Voyager. The fitment covers the North American market, including Canada and Mexico, in size 235/65R17 104T. The Voyager is now available for purchase.
Yokohama Rubber has teamed up with Alps Alpine to conduct research and development into CASE (Connected, Autonomous, Shared & Services and Electric) compliant sensors for passenger car tyres. The tyre maker chose to partner with the Japanese electronics specialist as, in addition to experience in sensor development, Alps Alpine possesses system design and software development capabilities that Yokohama anticipates will deliver synergies to its new tyre business model.
Introduced earlier in the year at the Geneva International Motor Show, the BluEarth-air EF21 represents the very latest from Yokohama in environmentally-friendly tyre design. The tyre comes with a coveted ‘AA’ label rating for rolling resistance and wet grip.
Yokohama Tire Corporation has a new vice president of Information Technology. Pavan Desaneni succeeds Wasi Ahmed in this capacity and will report to Tom Masuguchi, executive vice president and chief financial officer of the tyre maker’s North American business.

Chelsea FC and shirt partner Yokohama, have created a web-video to help raise awareness of this year’s tyre safety month. Running throughout October when variable weather conditions can make driving particularly treacherous, tyre safety month is encouraging motorists to carry out regular tyre safety checks such as ensuring their tyres are inflated to the correct pressure and they have adequate tread depth.

Meanwhile, Anil Gupta becomes Associate Officer, COO of ATC Tires Private Limited, Vice Chairman of Yokohama India Private Limited. He was formerly COO of ATC Tires Private Limited.
