The British Truck Racing Championship put Giti Tire on centre-stage as a special feature on the premier British motoring show Top Gear became one of the company’s 2022 highlights. The manufacturer is the Official Partner and Exclusive Tyre Supplier to the BTRC, while Team Oliver, of which it is a sponsor, provided competitive success, finishing third overall. Giti’s involvement with the series went up a notch in 2022; all competition trucks were fitted with Giti Race-Tuned v1 global competition truck tyres in size 315/70R22.5 for the first time. Giti said that feedback from the teams had been “overwhelmingly positive”.
Giti Tire appeared on the 19 June episode of Top Gear, supporting the presenting trio’s participation in a round of the British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC). The episode focused on commercial vehicles – an HGV special – as presenters Chris Harris, Freddie Flintoff and Paddy McGuinness passed their lorry driving tests before driving across the UK in new DAF, Mercedes and Scania pulling units. Their journey ended at Pembrey Race Circuit, where McGuinness then competed in a BTRC round in a fully liveried Giti truck.
Hankook will act as main sponsor of the 2021 BBC Top Gear Global Electric Vehicle Awards, which recognise the best EVs across 12 different award categories, including EV of the Year, Best Hatchback, SUV, Estate, and Hypercar. This arrangement builds upon other EV-related engagements, such as Hankook Tire’s upcoming tyre supply to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the world’s first and only all-electric street racing Formula series.
This weekend saw the finale of the 2015 Clarkson, Hammond and May Live Tour take place at the O2 Arena in London. Yokohama was there to cheer TV’s most famous presenting trio on as they and a host of stunt drivers performed a series of spectacular displays in Yokohama-shod cars.

A renegotiated deal was struck to allow the motoring presenter trio to fulfil its live commitments despite Jeremy Clarkson’s infamous removal from the flagship BBC show. The result of the renegotiation was the removal of Top Gear branding and pre-existing material filmed alongside the presenters’ work on the TV show. The Japanese tyre manufacturer told Tyrepress that it has agreed to maintain its tyre supply deal for the three remaining weekends, with Yokohama branding and promotional materials to appear in and around the arenas in Belfast, Sheffield and London.
Top Gear Live is dead; long live Clarkson, Hammond and May Live! The deal struck this week following Jeremy Clarkson’s ignominious departure from Top Gear to salvage the extensive 2015 Top Gear Live schedule has underlined the ending of Clarkson’s association with the brand and the BBC. While a decision on the fate of the programme – and presenters Richard Hammond and James May – remains in discussions, the deal guarantees ticket holders to see most of the show for which they bought tickets. Now that Jeremy Clarkson must be considered an ex-Top Gear presenter, the future of the planned Top Gear Live arena tour also been called into question. Four shows due to take place in Norway were postponed with replacement dates yet to be announced while the BBC’s investigation into Clarkson’s behaviour was completed. Having reported its findings that Clarkson made “an unprovoked physical and verbal attack” on his producer on 25 March, it appears the shows, and the rest of the ambitious Top Gear Live arena tour, remain in jeopardy – a potential marketing headache for the UK tour’s title sponsor Gocompare, and tyre supplier, Yokohama.
Yokohama has signed a deal to become the official tyre supplier for the 2015 Top Gear Live UK Tour. Yokohama tyres will be used on all vehicles featured during the five-venue tour. Commenting, Yokohama HPT Ltd managing director David Seward said: “I am delighted that Yokohama has been confirmed as official tyre supplier for the 2015 Top Gear Live UK Tour. The series of events really brings the television series to life and I am sure that our products will deliver the performance that the drivers require on every level.”
