16,000 workers underpaid £1.7 million by 260 firms across UK

The government has identified £1.7 million in back pay for 16,000 workers – more workers than in any previous naming round. The good news for the tyre industry is that none of the offending companies come from within the tyre sector. Instead, retail, hospitality and hairdressing were the most prolific sectors named in this round. However, with rates rising again in April 2018, young workers in particular are set to have the biggest pay boost in a decade.

Toyo Tire rings in the New Year with management, organisational changes

Tom Williams joins Kenda as vice president engineering

Kenda has appointed former Hankook tyre engineer Tom Williams as vice president engineering of the Taiwan based tyre manufacturer. According to the company, he has been vice president engineering at Kenda in Taiwan since the beginning of March.

Uniwheels appoints new CFO, posts preliminary 2013 results

As of 10 February, Dr. Karsten Obenaus is the new CFO of alloy wheel manufacturer Uniwheels. Previously head of financial accounting, Dr. Obenaus has long held senior positions within Uniwheels’ finance department. He succeeds Eckehard Forberich, who has left the company. Forberich held the role of CFO since 1 July 2011.

New Year personnel changes at Yokohama Rubber

Career Tracks

Yokohama has published details of a number of personnel changes scheduled to take effect on 1 January 2014. These include Director Yuju Goto swapping his role as Tire Business president for that of Chief Tire Production Officer (he will remain Head of the Tire Production division). Atao Kishi will become President of Yokohama Tire Retread Co. Ltd, while Sigeru Kagami and Osamu Mikami will be made corporate officers; they will respectively also be appointed to the roles of Head of the Tire Production Technology division and Head of the Tire Overseas Sales & Marketing division.

ACEA elects new president

The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) has elected PSA Peugeot Citroën CEO Philippe Varin as its new president. Varin’s appointment to the role was made following an ACEA Board of Directors meeting on 6 December; he will lead the ACEA until the end of his mandate as CEO of PSA Peugeot Citroën. The Board will announce Varin’s successor at that time.

Falken Tyre Europe appoints new product manager

Falken Tyre Europe has named Andreas Giese as its new product planning manager. Giese was previously with Giti Tire Deutschland, where he was employed as marketing manager for almost four years and was involved in the company’s European passenger car tyre business.

At the end of November Andreas Giese, who held the position of marketing manager at Giti Tire Deutschland GmbH since the start of 2010, left the company. Until a successor is appointed his duties will be carried out by the company’s ‘DACH’ region general manager Rainer Harter.

Toyo appoints new European business head

Tamotsu Sakuramoto will swap his European responsibilities for Japan-based roles as of 1 January 2014, reports Toyo Tire & Rubber. Sakuramoto will be replaced as general manager of Toyo Tire & Rubber’s Europe business unit by Takashi Shimizu, who is currently general manager of Toyo’s Tire Planning division and Tire Administration department; Shimizu will continue in these roles alongside his new position.

Colmec appoints Finnish sales manager

Swedish tyre distributor and retreader the Colmec Group now operates in Poland, Denmark, Iceland, Norway and Finland, where it established a new service and sales organisation in May 2013. New director general at Yokohama Tire Mexico

Yokohama Tire Mexico (YTMX), a subsidiary of Yokohama Tire Corporation, has announced the hiring of Humberto Gomez as its new director general. In this role, Gomez is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Queretaro, Mexico-based company. The position was created to meet the growing Mexican-market demand for consumer, commercial and off-the-road tyres.
