A team of volunteers from Bridgestone have participated in a community clean-up of a picturesque Welsh river after the company made a “substantial donation” to the project. The team from the company’s Warwick office made the trip to South Wales to support the week-long Ogmore River Clean Project, headed by environmental charity A Peace for Nature. Using six excavators, the project has removed thousands of tyres from the beauty spot, which are thought to have been dumped up to 40 years ago. These will now be recycled responsibly with some rubber crumb being used in local parks and playgrounds.

Pirelli has announced a new partnership with Luna Rossa ahead of the 38th edition of the America’s Cup. The tyre manufacturer, previously co-title sponsor since 2018, has become official sponsor and technical partner for the new campaign, with Pirelli supporting the development of technological solutions. Automechanika Birmingham 2025 (3-5 June; Birmingham NEC) has unveiled its motorXfactor Club programme. The organiser, Messe Frankfurt, says the club offers distributors “unrivalled access to networking among 550 exhibitors and other distributors from 36 countries, plus 150-plus hours of seminars.” The initiative also offers parts distributors the chance to hold meetings and enjoy refreshments as part of the IAAF Right to Repair VIP lounge, using the show app to invite exhibitors and fellow visitors to a meeting. Guests in the motorXfactor Club will also get entry into the Women in Automotive Networking Drinks Reception in the Networking Lounge on Wednesday 4 June. Bologna-based aftermarket expo, Autopromotec 2025 will host an area illustrating with practical demonstrations the different uses of RFID technology throughout the lifecycle of the tyre at Booth A2 in Pavilion 22. The area will illustrate how RFID optimises traceability, operational efficiency and sustainability from production, through distribution, retreading and end of life recovery and disposal. Goodyear will debut a new slick tyre specification for LMP2 teams at the 4 Hours of Le Castellet (4 May). Goodyear says the new specification marks a step forward in performance and durability. The newly developed LMP2 slick specification builds upon the foundation of Goodyear’s existing compound. Goodyear expects the tyre to improve performance and durability for drivers across race stints, after it is introduced for the second round of the 2025 European Le Mans Series (ELMS). It will also be used for the remainder of the 2025 ELMS campaign and by all 17 LMP2 contenders entered for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June.

Following the Defra Minister Mary Creagh MP’s “robust” statements in answer to questions on used tyre exports and other matter pertaining to tyre recovery in the UK on 29 April, the Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) has responded with cautious optimism. Prompted by the concerning revelations of the BBC’s File on 4 documentary, The Tyre Scandal, the debate saw the Minister acknowledge the programme’s “deeply upsetting” findings and pledge a crackdown on “waste cowboys” to “clean up Britain”. Telling the chamber in a Westminster Hall debate that it was time to “close the waste loopholes” the minister said: “We have got to stop outsourcing our waste problems to other countries.” She summed up her position by quoting a song made famous by Elvis Presley: “A little less conversation, a little more action.”
