Back to where it all began – Pirelli previews Silverstone’s British Grand Prix

The 2025 Formula 1 season reaches its midpoint at Silverstone this weekend for the British Grand Prix, with exclusive tyre supplier Pirelli marking the 75th anniversary of the Drivers’ Championship. Held on 13 May 1950 on a track laid out within a former World War II military airfield, the Northamptonshire circuit justifiably claims to be the “cradle” of the world’s most prominent motorsport series, and little has been altered in its layout since then. Only Monza in Italy has hosted more F1 championship races (74 grands prix to Silverstone’s 59). Thursday 3 July will be the 76th British Grand Prix, sharing with the Italian Grand Prix the honour of being the only races to have always featured on the championship calendar. The race was also held at Aintree (five times) and Brands Hatch (12).

Prometeon Tyre Group strengthens management team, creates Global Commercial Division

Prometeon Tyre Group has appointed Francesco Antonacci as chief commercial officer, Federica Boscolo as chief human resources officer, and Antonio Melone as chief manufacturing officer. The three managers will report directly to the deputy general manager, Liang Yuan. The commercial, agricultural and OTR tyre specialist has also established a new Global Commercial Division to accelerate the Group’s commercial expansion and consolidate its positioning in key markets. It said the reorganisation will enhance its leadership structure, leveraging “cross-functional skills” to “face new challenges and support growth and innovation.”

Pirelli launches Scorpion All Season SF3

Pirelli has launched the new Scorpion All Season SF3 all-season SUV tyre. The manufacturer says the new tyre expands the technical features of the award-winning Cinturato All Season SF3 specifically for the SUV vehicle segment. The tyre has achieved A-rated wet grip on the European tyre label throughout its size range, while the tyre carries the Three Peak Mountain Snowflake marking, certifying its suitability for winter road conditions. The tyre also achieves excellent sustainable motoring ratings, demonstrated by A or B-rated fuel efficiency for its low rolling resistance properties, and B-rated external noise.

Davanti DX440 ‘ahead of the curve’ for electric vehicles

By the end of May 2025, the UK had more than 1.5 million fully electric vehicles (EVs) on the road. Of these, nearly 180,000 are new EVs, which account for 20 per cent of all new cars registered this year. The strength of EV take-up means that an increasing number of tyre manufacturers are readying aftermarket products suitable for the safety and performance demands of EVs.

Continental to demonstrate sustainability with first-ever support vehicle supply on Tour de France 2025

Continental is a main sponsor and tyre supplier of selected teams at the 112th edition of the Tour de France, one of cycling’s premier events. For the first time in 2025, the tyre manufacturer will also exclusively equip the organiser’s official support motorcycles with its two-wheeler tyres. The manufacturer says the event provides “an excellent platform” to demonstrate its sustainable performance technology in front of a large international following. The Tour starts in Lille on 5 July, ending on the Champs-Élysées in Paris on 27 July, covering 3,320km over 21 stages. This year’s Tour includes the return of legendary climbs such as Mont Ventoux and Col de la Loze, demanding mountain stages that put maximum strain on tyres.

Fortune, Austone commercial tyre brands ‘lay down marker’ for Prinx at Autopromotec 2025

Prinx Chengshan exhibited its Fortune and Austone brands at Autopromotec in Bologna for the first time in 2025. After ramping up its marketing activities in Europe for both its major, multi-segment tyre brands via new websites and the European Truck Racing Championship, the manufacturer, whose European operations are based in Darmstadt, Germany, used one of the continent’s most significant tyre-related exhibitions to “lay down a marker on the European stage,” it said. Its stand demonstrated a strong focus on sustainable solutions for fleets and logistics.

ETB Autocentres has signed a new partnership with one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of premium engine and fuel treatments. IAAF signs Armed Forces Covenant at Automechanika Motorvate

The Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF) has formally signed the Armed Forces Covenant at Automechanika Birmingham’s Motorvate event. The pledge was signed on 4 June 2025 by Mark Field, chief executive officer of the IAAF, and facilitated by Mission Community as part of its Mission Automotive campaign. This joint initiative was launched alongside the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) to build pathways for Armed Forces talent to join all areas of the automotive industry. The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) also signed the covenant at Automechanika Birmingham 2025.

Thinkcar UK offers Euro Master diagnostic tool to extend OE coding to independents

Thinkcar UK has reduced the cost of its Euro Master diagnostic tool to extend the accessibility of OE-level ECU coding and programming to independent vehicle technicians. The tool, which normally retails for £1,695, is now available for £1,195 through Thinkcar’s national dealer network. Transaid partners AIHA on Ethiopian pharmaceutical supply chain project

Transaid is partnering fellow nonprofit organisation American International Health Alliance (AIHA) on an exciting 12-month supply chain strengthening project in Ethiopia. Giti adds two fuel efficient truck tyre sizes to EVO range

Giti Tire has added 385/55R22.5 and 385/65R22.5 to its recently launched Giti GSR237 EVO truck tyre range. The EVO version of the manufacturer’s combi road range is designed to offer energy saving solutions through reduced rolling resistance. Both new sizes of the regional steer tyre are certified B for fuel efficiency on the EU tyre label. Giti adds that a new tread compound has increased mileage by 20 per cent against the same sizes in the Giti GSR259 portfolio. The Giti GSR237 EVO in 385/55R22.5 also has an improved load index of 162 to comply with the latest generation truck requirements.
