30+ vans stolen every day

Four-in-10 of all new vans on sale do not come with an alarm as standard, according to an exclusive investigation by What Car? Vans. The findings follow research highlighting how more than 43,000 vans have been stolen since 2016, with a further 117,000 broken into, costing drivers and businesses more than £61.9 million in lost tools and other items.

Huge rise in theft of catalytic converters from cars

UK News

Drivers are being urged to be vigilant after a huge rise in the number of catalytic converters being stolen from cars. Police in London say the number of thefts in the first six months of 2019 was 2,894, a 73 per cent increase on the 1,674 stolen in the whole of 2018. In Cambridgeshire, there were 61 reported thefts between June 20 and August 14, with 44 of these from Honda Jazz, Toyota Prius or Toyota Auris cars.

£15,000 of tyres stolen from Michelin

On 23 March tyres worth £15,000 were solen from Michelin’s Stoke-on-Trent distribution centre. Police have released CCTV footage of three alleged thieves, including a clip that shows a white Iveco 7.5 tonne truck and three average build men.

UK car theft rate up 57 per cent

In the UK, car theft has increased by 57 per cent over the past year, with criminals using more sophisticated techniques to override security measures. With modern cars often now equipped with keyless entry, there is a growing issue of keyless theft, where criminals use so-called relay devices to trick cars into thinking the legitimate key is nearby.

Two-tone cars most attractive to thieves, says report

UK News

A new report by mycarcheck.com has shown the UK’s five most popular used car colours to be: 1) Black 2) Silver 3) Blue 4) White and 5) Grey. It also revealed that two-tone cars are more likely to be stolen.

22.68 per cent of all searches conducted on mycarcheck.com in 2016 were for black cars, an almost identical performance to the previous year, ahead of silver (20.93 per cent) and blue (16.89 per cent).

£50K worth of Goodyear, Dunlop tyres stolen from lorry

UK News

According to Northamptonshire Police, Goodyear and Dunlop tyres with a total value of around £50,000 were stolen from a lorry parked in the northbound Watford Gap services overnight. Two small holes were cut in the lorry’s side curtain and the security tag cut on the rear doors in order to reach the tyres sometime between 11pm yesterday and 6am this morning. The driver of the lorry was asleep at the time.

ATS Euromaster Leeds branch ram-raided

40 tyres have been stolen after the ATS Euromaster branch in Cross Green Lane, Cross Green, Leeds was ram-raided last night (11 July 2016).

Police are appealing for information after the incident which is believed to have taken place at about 10.30. According to West Yorkshire police, the constabulary received reports of a white transit van repeatedly ramming the shutter doors the ATS Euromaster branch “causing significant damage”.

Suspended sentence for £100k Pirelli theft man

Although he claimed no intentional involvement in the theft of Pirelli tyres worth more than £102,000, Graham Wait was found guilty of conspiracy to commit theft in February. At his sentencing at Carlisle Crown Court last Friday, Wait received an 18 month suspended sentence for the role he played in the theft of 358 Pirelli tyres, and was ordered to pay £1,500 in court costs and to perform 200 hours of unpaid work.

Tracker reveals top ten regions for vehicle thefts

The latest stolen vehicle recovery (SVR) figures for 2015 from Tracker (part of the Tantalum Corporation), reveal that London continues to top the list of regions where cars were most stolen and recovered. Year-on-year Tracker saw a 12 per cent increase in the number of stolen vehicles recovered across the UK in 2015, equating to nearly £12.5 million worth of vehicles being returned to their owners.

Delivery driver denies involvement in Pirelli tyre theft conspiracy

One of three men accused of stealing £102,000 worth of tyres from Pirelli’s Carlisle factory between August 2013 and May 2014 has appeared in Carlisle Crown Court this week to answer a charge of conspiracy to commit theft. Graham Wait, who denies any wrongdoing and says he was not involved in the conspiracy, has entered a not guilty plea.
