Michelin franchises to more than double within 5 years

At present, Michelin operates around 2,000 franchised dealer points of sale around the world; according to information published in the tyre maker’s 2012 annual results presentation, the exact figure is 2013. Yet within a few short years, this number should this number should increase by around 150 per cent. Michelin says it intends to have 5,000 franchised dealer points of sale by 2017.

Within our region the Euromaster network will undergo radical growth, with the number of franchises jumping some 170 per cent from 628 to 1,700. Michelin has not explained what form this growth will take.

Outside of Europe, Michelin’s franchised dealer network trades under the ‘TyrePlus’ name. At present the network boasts 173 franchised outlets in Eastern Europe, and this will increase to 220 by 2017. In China, where TyrePlus is represented by 840 franchised dealer points of sale, numbers will more than double to 1,700 TyrePlus centres. The ASEAN region will also see strong growth, with the number of TyrePlus points of sale growing 174 per cent from 219 to 600. TyrePlus franchise centre numbers in Africa and the Middle East are expected to quadruple to 400, while in South America, where currently only three pilot points of sale operate, Michelin plans to establish 500 franchised TyrePlus centres by 2017. The 50 TyrePlus franchise points of sale in North America will increase to 120.
