RH Claydon buys Unity Tyre stock and assets
East of England-based tyre wholesaler RH Claydon has expanded its business with the acquisition of agricultural, industrial and specialist tyre wholesaler Unity Tyre.

The first STARCO Alptrak released 10 years ago was designed for traction on turf and other terrain. Back then, nobody had foreseen that this pattern would be later tested for the Saudi Arabian market, together with STARCO’s key customer Avant Tecno. Both jointly developed the Alptrak for desert use.
“Our machines are initially not designed for sandy conditions like in Saudi Arabia. However, we have learned that by adjusting the wheel and tyre solution, we can make our multipurpose loaders perform just as well in sandy conditions, as they do in snow, mud or on dry surfaces,” explains Raul Tsili, Purchasing Manager at Avant Tecno.
It recently upgraded its V.ply port tyre line with the introduction of Port Plus, a compound designed to reduce heat generation and abrasion. Now Continental has announced plans to complete its port tyre portfolio next year with the summer 2019 launch of new radial products.
A new compound has been developed for Continental tyres that will see use in harbourside applications. Continental calls this compound Port Plus, and reports that it reduces tyre heat generation, minimises wear and extends tyre life significantly. The Port Plus compound will premiere at TOC Europe in Rotterdam next month.
Sri Lankan industrial tyre maker Global Rubber Industries, or GRI, has laid the foundation for its new off-road tyre factory. Groundbreaking took place 4 January and marks the start of construction on a plant that will be built with an investment of US$40 million. The facility will be built adjacent to GRI’s current solid industrial tyre factory in Badalgama, Sri Lanka.
Tyre wholesaler Kings Road Tyres (KRT) has invested in a major expansion of its Kingstone range to include over 60 new lines for ATV, turf, horticultural, agricultural, light materials handling and high speed trailer tyre applications. In addition, the new products are supported by a range of EU-manufactured tubes.
According to the company, the investment represents the most significant expansion of the brand since it was first introduced in 1987, with the new lines joining the company’s existing range of Kingstone tubes and flaps.
Carlisle has introduced three new sizes of its Farm Specialist floatation tyre. According to the manufacturer, the extra wide profile design and large load capacity makes the Farm Specialist “perfectly suited for agricultural applications like: silage trailers, manure spreaders, tipping trailers, hay rake machines, hay bailers and harvesting machines.”
