GRI ‘privileged’ to continue pivotal role in food supply chain

Date: 7th April 2020 Author: Stephen Goodchild Comments: 0
GRI’s plant in Sri Lanka produces agricultural tyres as well as solid material handling tyres

Agility and rapid responsiveness are important for GRI, and the company believes these qualities set it apart within the specialty tyre manufacturing industry. It shares that the firm has “been ahead of other companies in the industry” facing the current COVID-19 situation thanks to the very proactive and far-sighted actions of its senior management.

The government of Sri Lanka has taken rapid pre-emptive action to protect the island nation. GRI says it has also done the same to ensure the company continues operations and meets customer demand. It has gained special permission from Sri Lanka’s government to carry on exporting its products even under lockdown conditions – the government has declared the island’s natural rubber industry essential for the country.

While GRI was quick to ensure its head office staff could work remotely, it implemented health and safety precautions in its factory so that limited operations can continue. “We developed a COVID-19 operating procedure well above that required by the World Health Organization (WHO) and our government, conducted prompt training and instilled a strong sense of responsibility with each employee,” shares Dr. Mahesha Ranasoma, chief executive officer of GRI.

“We produce high-performance agriculture tyres as well as material handling tyres, which are essential to support the food and agriculture industry as well as the logistics industry. GRI is privileged to have this pivotal role in the world’s food supply chain and are committed to rising up to the needs of our customers, our country and our world,” added Prabhash Subasinghe, managing director of GRI.

The company produces the Green EX cross-ply and Green XLR radial agriculture tyre lines. GRI has also been producing solid tyres for material handling applications for many years. GRI sells its tyres in over 50 markets and has offices in nine countries. The company’s new factory is the largest specialty tyre production facility in Sri Lanka and the first to produce radial agricultural tyres in the country.
