This weekend, some of the world’s most technologically innovative race cars will go to battle on the track for the first time when Pure ETCR holds its inaugural race event at Vallelunga, Italy. As a Founding Partner to the world’s first multi-brand all-electric touring car championship, Goodyear was tasked with developing a bespoke tyre for these 670 hp electric racers. The tyre maker talks about its work designing a tyre for the most powerful touring cars in the history of motorsport.
The performance stats of recently-launched electric cars highlight that the move to electrification not only eliminates emissions, but also raises the bar in regards to sheer acceleration and instant performance. Electric saloons from manufacturers such as Audi and Porsche can hit 60 mph faster than many traditional supercars. Goodyear says this brings exciting new challenges for tyre design and development.
In August Goodyear unveiled the treaded tyre it will supply to the new Pure ETCR electric touring car championship when it gets underway next year, and since then has benefitted from technical feedback supplied by series promoter Eurosport Events and the technical department at WSC Group. Working with this feedback, Goodyear has finalised the specification of the specially-developed Eagle F1 SuperSport race tyre.
Goodyear has revealed the bespoke Eagle F1 SuperSport race tyre that will be equipped to all cars in Pure ETCR. The series is the world’s first all-electric multi-brand touring car series. Goodyear is the exclusive tyre supplier and founding partner of the championship.
The motorsport calendar now includes an all-new event – the world’s first all-electric, multi-brand touring car championship. Pure ETCR vehicles will be equipped with a Williams Advanced Engineering battery unit and a 500kW Magelec Propulsion powertrain – the equivalent of a staggering 680bhp – that drives the rear wheels and enables 0 to 100km/h acceleration in just 3.2 seconds. This torquey power will be delivered to the racetrack via products supplied by one of Pure ETCR’s founder partners – Goodyear.
