
Goodyear-LSE study into driving personalities identifies dangerous traits
A joint, ongoing study on the social psychology of road safety conducted by Goodyear and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) has identified different ways that people respond when interacting with other drivers on the road. The information gained so far comes from the first stage of a two-part study into driving behaviour. LSE researchers worked with focus groups and conducted in-depth interviews to identify how drivers influence each other’s behaviour on the road.

Pirelli to supply soft, medium compounds at Spa for Belgian grand prix
Pirelli has nominated the most versatile tyres in its range, the P Zero White medium and P Zero Yellow soft, to combat the Belgian grand prix’s fast Spa circuit. Supplying the same tyre nomination for Spa as it did for the Hungaroring, despite the differences in the two tracks, shows the range provided by Pirelli’s middle two Formula One P Zero compounds. New Donington Park record at Formula E pre-season testing
Lucas di Grassi became the first driver to record a time in the 1:29s on day four of pre-season testing at Donington Park. The Abt Schaeffler driver used the 200kw qualifying mode to post a lap of 1:29.920 to break the new lap record his team-mate Daniel Abt set yesterday. The Brazilian was well clear of his rivals, who were headed by Renault e.dams’ driver Sebastien Buemi.

World RX tyre supplier goes to Hell with 47 Supercar entries
After passing the midway point of the season for the 2015 FIA World Rallycross Championship, tyre supplier Cooper says the competition is heating up in Hell, Norway, with just six rounds to go. A record number of 47 Supercars will be on the grid in Norway, accompanied by 12 RX Lites competitors, all running on Cooper’s rallycross tyres which are specifically designed for the very unique demands of rallycross – a fusion of gravel and asphalt racing.

Jon Tatnall, formerly dealer principal at Yeomans Peugeot and Hyundai in Hastings, has joined Kent-based engine detox specialist EDT Automotive as national sales manager. Tatnall started his career as a trainee sales executive at Sidlow Group, before taking increasingly senior roles at Lifestyle, Pinewood and Pendragon.

Belshina JSC says it expects sales of its tyres in Pakistan this year will be double the level achieved in 2014. The Belarus-based tyre maker has been exporting to Pakistan since 2001 and in past years shipped 11,000 to 12,000 tyres a year to the country. Most of the tyres Belshina currently sells in Pakistan are agricultural tyres, however the company sees potential for greater volumes there, including sales of truck tyres.

He begins in this position on 1 September, and while he steps down as CEO of the Bridgestone-Sabanci joint venture company he will remain on the Brisa board. Yiğit Gürçay replaces Bayman in the top Brisa job.

Stop the Crash – Continental partners with Global NCAP campaign
Tyre maker and automotive systems supplier Continental is to serve as a key partner to a four-year global campaign being rolled out to promote awareness of leading vehicle crash avoidance technologies in major emerging markets. The firm’s Tire and Chassis & Safety divisions are supporting the ‘Stop the Crash’ initiative organised by Global NCAP (Global New Car Assessment Programme), the London-based umbrella body of the NCAP organisations that carry out vehicle safety tests around the world. The company also states it will more closely position its Continental tyre brand to the campaign’s long-term goals.

Intolerance on wheels – 1/3 of UK drivers let prejudices affect their driving
A thick skin isn’t necessary for driving in the UK, but it certainly helps. A survey of 2,200 drivers performed for Continental Tyres shows that more than a third permit their assumptions to influence them behind the wheel, while some 45 per cent allow prejudices to affect how courteous or aggressively they act towards other road users – with something as simple as a bumper sticker prompting them to see red.

Talks with potential UK, European distributors under way, says Bright Technology
Bright Technology says the number of sales and distribution partners it has throughout Europe is on the rise.
