Michelin to close truck tyre factory in France
The Michelin Group informed the 619 employees at its tyre production facility in La Roche-sur-Yon, France this morning that it will close the site by the end of next year. In addition, 74 people at Michelin’s Cholet plant, employees working in roles related to the supply of rubber mixed to the La Roche-sur-Yon site, are also affected by the closure.

UK motorists want a full-size spare tyre
Car review website Carbuyer.co.uk says UK motorists have given space saver spare wheels and puncture repair kits an “overwhelming thumbs down”. When it asked a sample group of more than a thousand motorists which modern car features annoy them most, two out of three responded that the lack of a full-size spare tyre was their biggest gripe.

Nokian Tyres opens USA factory
Just over two years after groundbreaking, Nokian Tyres officially opened its new North American production facility. A ceremony was held at the Dayton, Tennessee plant on 2 October to mark the start of operations. The facility is currently engaged in trial production and is expected to be ready to make tyres for commercial use in early 2020.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has announced that, from 1 November 2019, anyone applying to be an authorised examiner (AE) or authorised examiner designated manager (AEDM) will need to have a basic DBS check. This verifies the applicants identity and checks unspent convictions. DVSA is introducing DBS checks to prevent people who might damage the integrity of the MOT scheme from holding positions of authority at test centres.

Recall announced for some Dunlop Trailmax Meridian tyres
An alert regarding certain Dunlop motorcycle tyres has been issued via the European Commission’s Rapid Exchange of Information System (RAPEX). The alert (A12/1441/19) pertains to an unspecified number of Dunlop Trailmax Meridian tyres that are being recalled by the manufacturer. Goodyear Dunlop Tyres UK stresses that none of the tyres in question are sold in the UK market.

Chelsea make Tyre Safety Month video
