
Multistrada to increase production capacity despite lower car tyre exports
According to Pieter Tanuri, president director of Indonesian tyre maker PT Multistrada Arah Sarana Tbk, the company is aiming for a “ten to 15 per cent increase in revenue” during 2016. Multistrada intends to support this rise through higher exports and will accommodate this hoped-for increase in unit sales by boosting production capacity for both car and motorcycle tyres. “Exports are the highest sales contributors,” noted Tanuri, adding that sales in export markets account for 70 per cent of total company sales.

He officially started his two-year presidency of Aliapur at the body’s board meeting held on 11 May 2016 taking over from Serge Bonnel, the managing director of Continental France.

For Swedish firm Trelleborg AB the second quarter was, according to president and CEO Peter Nilsson, “particularly eventful.” The acquisition of Mitas parent company CGS was finalised during the three months to 30 June 2016 and the operations consolidated into Trelleborg’s financial statements for the month of June. “The integration of CGS into our existing operations has begun and is progressing well,” comments Nilsson. The company also “devoted considerable time during the quarter” to complete the sale of its holding in Vibracoustic to partner Freudenberg.

In the aftermath of June’s Brexit referendum, more than a few voices called for the UK government to reconsider its decision to leave the European Union. And while the new Prime Minister is adamant that “Brexit means Brexit,” we retain the option of later rejoining the club should we wish to. The same applies within the tyre industry, as we recently witnessed with Germany’s Continental AG. Magna Tyres Group has announced the appointment of City 1st as its UK distributor. Commenting on the wholesaler’s new role, Ray Coulson, OTR tyre sales manager at City 1st, says that “because Magna Tyres Group is known for their emphasis on quality combined with an affordable price we decided to start this mutual cooperation. Giving a reason for the choosing City 1st to distribute the off-road tyre range, Stephan van Leeuwen, Magna’s sales manager for the UK, notes that the two companies’ “business beliefs are similar.” He adds: “City 1st is a perfect distribution partner for Magna Tyres Group.”

Michelin-equipped Bombardier CS100 enters service
All C Series jets produced by Bombardier are to be exclusively fitted with Michelin Air X aircraft tyres as standard, and the first of new this series, the CS100, took to the air on its maiden commercial flight this week. The flight from Zurich to Paris was made with launch operator Swiss on 15 July.

Dunlop seeks more WEC success in Germany
The fourth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship takes place at the Nürburgring circuit on 24 July. The six hour race follows the double-points Le Mans 24 Hours where Dunlop saw considerable success in the LMP2 class. The tyre supplier adds that it gained valuable experience with partner teams in LMP1 and LMGTE.

Bridgestone names new EMEA president & CEO
Starting 19 September, Paolo Ferrari will begin in the role of president and chief executive officer of Bridgestone Corporation’s Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) business unit, and additionally become a member of the Bridgestone Europe NV/SA Board of Directors and Executive Committee. EU car registrations up 6.9% in June
Although registrations of new passenger cars declined slightly in the UK last month, the opposite applied in most markets within the region. The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) reports that the European Union car market grew for the 34th consecutive month during June 2016, with two of the five largest markets recording a greater than ten per cent year-on-year rise. Registrations jumped 11.9 per cent to 165,208 units in Italy during the month and 11.2 per cent to 123,790 in Spain. Germany, Europe’s largest car market, recorded 339,563 new car registrations during the month, 8.3 per cent more than in June 2015, while France experienced a modest growth of 0.8 per cent, to 227,353 new car registrations.
