The Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. first half 2016 profits declined 49.3 per cent, to 8.2 billion yen. Yokohama reports that the fall resulted from a 37.9 per cent decline in operating income, to 15.7 billion yen, on a 9.5 per cent decline in net sales, to 268.1 billion yen. The Japanese tyre manufacturer put the negative performance down to “a unit decline in Japanese vehicle production, weakening demand and declining prices in Yokohama’s principal product sectors, and the appreciation of the yen”.

Responding to the Yokohama True Blue Fan Challenge contest, Daniel E of Phoenix, Arizona put on his Chelsea beanie and shirt and started working on the winning entry. The tyre manufacturer, and Chelsea shirt sponsor, called his short video “creative” and “clever”, awarding it the top prize out of hundreds of entries: a trip to see Chelsea beat Liverpool 1-0 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on 27 July. Yokohama proves best in wet on Evo magazine wet tyre test
Yokohama’s Advan Sport V105 tyre won the wet handling tests in EVO magazine’s 2016 ultra-high performance tyre test. The test, conducted at Continental’s proving ground in Texas used a 247bhp Ford Focus ST, fitted with 19” tyres for the first time in an Evo test (235/35R19). The full review placed the Yokohama tyre in join-second overall.
