Goodyear tyres OE on Chrysler 200

Chrysler has approved Goodyear’s Assurance Fuel Max in size 215/55R17 as standard equipment for certain models in its upcoming 200 range, which goes on sale in North America during the second quarter of 2014. In announcing this latest original equipment deal, Goodyear Tire & Rubber notes that its tyres are on more new vehicles in North America than any other brand.

2013 motorcycle market down

“The motorcycle market fell 1.9 per cent in 2013 with 1,757 fewer units being sold than in 2012”, said Sue Robinson, Director of the National Motorcycle Dealers Association (NMDA) which represents motorcycle retailers across the UK.

“Overall, we anticipated the 125cc market to revive the sales, but after a positive start to the year, sales declined by 3.5 per cent. Other sectors including the 50cc and 651-1000cc machines also saw a fall in sales in 2013.”

Kumho introduces self-sealing technology

On 2 January, Kumho Tire announced the domestic market launch of its first self-sealing tyre. The company’s ‘K-Seal’ technology has been introduced on the Kumho Majesty Solus range and is available in three sizes – 275/40ZR19 XL 105W, 245/45ZR19 XL 102W and 235/45ZR17 XL 97W. These tyres are capable of self-sealing tread punctures of up to five millimetres in diameter.

Pirelli approves two BoD additions

At a meeting of the Pirelli & C. SpA Board of Directors on 21 October, Claudio Sposito and Paolo Fiorentino were co-opted as members to replace Vittorio Malacalza and Giulia Maria Ligresti, whose resignations from the board were announced on 10 May and 24 July respectively. The vacancy following the 16 October resignation of Carlo Salvatori remains open for the time being.

JK Tyre To Start Chennai Expansion

Schaeffler places 4% Conti shares to reduce debt

Schaeffler Holding and Schaeffler AG have announced that the companies have placed roughly 4 per cent of Continental shares with a range of investors. According to a statement issued by Schaeffler group, net proceeds will be used to pay down debt as well as additional reduction of debt from excess cash flow. However, the company re-affirmed that Continental AG remains a long-term strategic shareholding.
