JK Tyre preparing for Chennai expansion

Within the next two to three months, JK Tyre & Industries intends to get is RS 10 billion Chennai plant (£100 million) expansion project underway. When work is complete plant capacity will be double the current level, making it one of the company’s main export facilities.

Vikram Malhotra, vice president of sales and marketing, told the Business Standard that work will start in the next two to three months and be completed by 2016-17. He added that annual capacity will grow from 2.5 million PCR tyres to 4.5 million and from 400,000 TBR tyres to 1.2 million.

“We see a good growth in the domestic market, besides catering to the local demand it will also cater to export markets and this plant will be one of the major hubs for exports,” he told the financial daily.
