NFT Tyre Agreement Awarded to Tyre Maintenance

NFT, a leading provider of time critical logistics solutions for the food sector, has changed its tyre management solution to Tyre Maintenance Ltd, a part of the Bandvulc Group. The change sees NFT adopt a policy fitment of Bandvulc tyres and retains the majority of service operators as previously.

For NFT, David Seaton, Fleet Engineer commented: “Tyre Maintenance and Bandvulc have indirect links with NFT currently in servicing many of the same fleet customers as we do. It made sense both operationally and economically to utilise this synergy and to bring operations within the same group of companies.”

Van Service Award a 2010 Hat-Trick for Kwik-Fit Fleet

A concerted focus on helping businesses reduce operating costs and improve efficiency has helped Kwik-Fit Fleet secure a third award for 2010, this time from industry publication Fleet Van. At the Fleet Van Awards 2010 ceremony, held in London on October 6, the fast-fit provider was confirmed as this year’s Van Service and Repair Company of the Year. The latest gong to come Kwik-Fit Fleet’s way joins accolades earned in the BusinessCar Awards and from LeasePlan UK earlier in the year.

Blackcircles.com Garages Adopting Motor Codes Standards

Over the coming 12 months motorists visiting any of garages utilised by Blackcircles.com will gain the added assurance provided by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders subsidiary Motor Codes. The online tyre retailer is taking steps to ensure each of the more than a thousand garages and fast fit outlets it uses subscribe to the Motor Codes ‘Service and Repair Code’, a decision it says will ensure greater peace of mind for motorists.

Kwik-Fit Sets Monthly MoT Test Record

September was a record month for MoT tests at Kwik-Fit. During this period the fast-fitter examined a total of 60,000 cars at its UK service centres during, a larger number of monthly MoT tests than at any other time in the company’s history. The company says this ability to examine so many cars for the national roadworthiness test is the result of sustained investment in the provision of servicing and MoT testing, including the installation of additional MoT testing bays.

Expanded MOT Coverage a ‘Natural Step Forward’ for ATS Euromaster

Plans to increase the number of ATS Euromaster outlets equipped for MOT testing are “on target”, the fast-fitter reports. By the end of the year 100 centres throughout the UK will be able to offer an MOT test service, an increase of 20 per cent. ATS Euromaster says a similar increase is scheduled for 2011.

ATS Euromaster Wins Removal Company Tyre Contract

International removals firm Rose Removals has switched from a local tyre service provider to ATS Euromaster, using a mixture of Avon and Michelin tyres for its fleet of 12 vans and 12 trucks. For 20 years the 35-year-old, Devon-based company had sourced its domestic tyre requirements from Mid-Devon Tyres, but had experience of using the extensive Euromaster network in mainland Europe. ATS Euromaster’s parent company operates across 11 countries on the continent, providing a roadside rapid response service to many visiting UK fleets.

Kwik-Fit Pledges Additional Training Funds Following Watchdog Attack

Kwik-Fit has promised to direct an additional million pounds into staff training and double its mystery shopper programme after the BBC One show ‘Watchdog’ aired both its own experience with the fast fit chain and those of several unsatisfied customers. The September 16 edition of Watchdog outlined cases in which Kwik-Fit quoted for repair work that wasn’t required and performed vehicle inspections that didn’t deliver all that was promised.

BSI Hits Back at Which? Report Criticising Garages

BSI has aired it views on Radio 5 Live and BBC Leeds following a Which? report stating that garages are not correctly servicing cars. According to Which? there is still “incompetence” in UK car garages following an undercover investigation that found nearly 90 per cent of the garages investigated by the consumer watchdog missed (or ignored) at least one potentially dangerous fault. However, the report failed to mention that BSI-operate Kitemark scheme “offers the most robust certification because of its rigorous criteria.”

Which?: Garages Still Ripping Off Consumers

The latest Which? report on garage service concludes that there are still shocking levels of incompetence in the sector despite the introduction of several new codes of conduct. The undercover investigation found that 90 per cent of the 62 garages mystery shopped by the consumer watchdog missed (or ignored) at least one potentially dangerous fault, while 39 per cent charged for a product that wasn’t supplied.

Which? introduced four simple faults – “deflated spare and nearside rear tyres, brake fluid at the minimum level and a blown bulb on the reversing light.” However, according to the report just eight of the garages tested returned the cars fault-free and five garages failed to fix any of the introduced faults.

B-Quik Expands Despite Unrest in Thailand

B-Quik, Thailand’s biggest independent automotive repair organization, saw revenue grow over 30 per cent in the first 6 months of 2010, this despite the unrest in the Thai capital in the month of May. The company has opened two new stores so far this year (one on the island of Phuket and one in Bangkok) and now operates through 64 outlets. For the second half of the year another seven new stores are confirmed and three more are pending. B-Quik adjusted its revenue expectation for 2010 to exceed 2.5 billion Thai baht (£50 million, 61 million Euros). Growth is almost equally split, 15 per cent from like for like same store increase and the other 15 per cent from new stores build last year and this year. The sales growth is divided evenly over the various product groups but aircon repairs and servicing and oil/filter changes lead the growth.

Encircle Moving into French and Italian Markets

Tyre market research specialists Encircle Marketing has been developing Italian and French portals of its website as a prelude to launching sell-out pricing and selling way programmes in these countries in the first quarter of 2011. Test programmes will be conducted in the last quarter of this year.

Micheldever Tyre and Auto Services Commits to Motor Codes

Micheldever Tyre and Auto Services has signed-up to the Motor Industry Code of Practice for Service and Repair. The company, which sells about six million tyres a year, has subscribed its 50 ‘Protyre’-branded outlets to the Code aiming to enhance the company’s profile and reach while reinforcing its high customer service standards.

“The decision to subscribe to the Service and Repair Code was taken after extensive research into both our customers’ requirements and the need for the whole industry to raise its standards,” said Simon Hiorns, retail director at Micheldever. “We recognise that in many cases the motor industry needs to build trust with its customers, as over the years, this has been eroded by ‘cowboy traders’. Protyre has built a reputation for providing exceptional service, something that Motor Codes allows us to promote to our customers.
