The Philips brand launched into the workshop lighting sector a decade ago, having extensively researched what workshop professionals needed by way of lighting. The range of Philips lights for the workshop has long included a headlamp – in addition to the Philips penlights, handhelds, multi-unit systems, under-bonnet and stand lights. Lumileds, who are responsible for developing, manufacturing and marketing all of Philips Automotive products, are constantly researching the market and developing new products – the latest of which is the new Philips HL22M motion-sensing, rechargeable headlamp.
Since Andy Savva was announced by Lumileds as a brand ambassador for Philips Automotive Products, the “Garage Inspector”, as he is known throughout the UK’s automotive aftermarket businesses, has tackled a number of different subjects. Philips RacingVision has an illustrious history of winning Auto Express awards; most recently, it scooped the Best of Test accolade in 2016, Headlight Bulb of the Year 2017, Best of Test 2018 and now this year’s Headlight Bulb of the Year.
Philips RacingVision headlight bulbs, developed by Lumileds, have been named Auto Express Best Buy 2018. Auto Express is the UK’s best-selling weekly motoring magazine and the only publication in the UK to regularly test automotive upgrade products and accessories. In just over a decade, Philips bulbs have won Headlamp Bulb of the Year eight times, in addition to being awarded overall best Car Accessory of the Year.
Although you wouldn’t think so at first glance, headlight bulbs are high-precision products. While a normal household bulb distributes its light over a radius of just a few metres, a headlight bulb combined with the reflector has to transfer the light accurately onto the road at a distance much greater than 50 metres.
Philips X-tremeVision headlights produce “up to 130 per cent brighter light, without compromising on the lifetime,” the company states. With up to 450 hours, the product boasts a significantly longer lifetime for the high performance light category.
Why change in pairs? An old lamp deteriorates fast, and if one bulb fails the second will probably fail shortly after. It’s a smarter, more convenient and more economic approach to maintenance, two new lamps are brighter so you see further and get a balanced view of the road.
